Waterloo Station
-Brief briefing-

Hello Earthling.....
Be thoust a traveller from an antique land, then... one day in your life, you're in London, England, underneath the tower of Big Ben... Take that bridge across the river, and behold the plateau of WATERLOO STATION Just behind that huge fairground wheel...

Waterloo Station
There has been a Waterloo Station in this very place, right in the heart of Central London, since the mid nineteenth Century. Its been a slow evolution into what appears here now, as contemporary schools of architectural thought leave their scars on this, the great embodiment of the British Railway legacy. Its a grand space of dissapearing decorations, but relics can still be found from a more graceful past. Evidence suggests that this station was named after its neighbouring bridge, the view from which is one of total panorama, quite breathtaking on a summer sunset.

Waterloo is Britain's largest Train station, its 19 main platforms delivering to the south-west of London, first hitting the suburbs, then the glorious home counties, continuing onto the major world ports of Portsmouth and Southampton, and then on into the west country of Ye Olde Englands GREEN AND PLEASANT LAND.

HOWEVER! ...hidden away in an obscure outpost of the station are the gloomy confines of WATERLOO EAST, hiding a further 6 platforms that deliver services out to the south-east, driving through the beauty of Kent, thrusting onto the coastal towns, including the Port of Dover! Yo ho ho!

EUROSTAR! ...an extra 5 platforms harbour 'Eurostar' trains, these being the services serving the channel tunnel, providing, for instance, a direct train, Waterloo to Paris, taking 3 hours! Mon Dieu! The great juggernautical coaches rest bloatedly under that blue snake-like skeletal canopy, awaiting their cargo who will be entombed and sealed within, ready to re-emerge anew at a later time and alight unto the mental continental.

NOT FORGETTING! ...another 8 subterranian platforms, providing subway connections! What an entirely splendid idea! Yes, its best not to forget that under ones feet theres a lot of unseen metro activity, stressed city worker ants beavering between sardine packed tube services, only occasionally seeing daylight.

Waterloo is well worth a wander!
• Enter via the 'War memorial' enterance!!!
• Gasp in awe at the 'Waterloo International' architecture!!!
• Visit 'Lost property' for misplaced umbrellas & false teeth!!!

But most of all...
Arrange to meet a loved one "Underneath the big clock"....
.....The most romantic meeting point in the universe!
