I don't really know why I love this kind of fic so much, and I've ceased to seek answers. I just do. The best reason I've come up with is this: there is something incomparably romantic to think of Mulder and Scully existing in a bleak world in which they will do anything to be with each other and battle any adversary that threatens to come between them.

| The Emissary II: Grail | Darkstryder and RocketMan | They thought they could escape. They were wrong. Captured by their enemies and given new identities, Mulder and Scully are haunted by images of each other. Now, worlds apart, they must put their faith in their new "masters." | A Thin Veneer | Analise | Colonization has come and gone, taking civilization with it. But not necessarily civilization's monsters. Mulder and Scully discover that monsters are often all too human and that they don't have to be part of the F.B.I. to discover an X-File... Analise's FanFic (There's even a kick-ass illustrated version of this story at her site!) | NC-17. 175K. | July 29, 1999 |
