Dream

I dreamt last night of you
Of laughter, of pride, of loss
The memory of those days--
Too clear, too sharp
Time should soften the edges
Pain should dull the colors
Our joy was almost visible
My grief was almost tangible
Time was a concept
Death? An idea

I dreamt last night of death
To once again see you
Must I give my life?
If death be the price,
Freely do I pay it.
The visage of the dread specter
It was not a threat
Rather, I saw an invitation
I shall be the Juliet to your Romeo
Separated in life,
Reunited in death
