So how exactly DO you make a web page? All that information, and codes, and .html's and links and such, can seen kind of overwhelming, but really, it's not.
The best place (and easiest place)for web page creation is none other Angelfire. Seriously, it's perfect for your new users...the Basic way to build a page is soooo easy! And it has advanced creation setting for those advanced users that know how to do everything.
The first thing you have to do if sigh up for your web page. Once you do, it will bring you (I'm using Angelfire as an example) to the screen that says WEB SHELL at the top in a blue banner. Then, you shoudl have a littel white box that says something like Your Main Page. Click on that and then the create/edit button and you're already started.
If you chose Basic, just follow the instructions. Here's a tip though. Erase everyting in boxes 2,6, and 8 because that will apear on your page if you don't take it off. You can follow the directions on the page and you should be fine. In box #9, type whatever you want to have on that part of your page.
Don't screw around with that becaue it will mess up your entire page.
An index page shoud look something like mine does. If you forget when mine looks like, click here.
Once your index page is done, you have to make other pages. If you need ideas, so stuff like a friends page, stories, poetry, jokes, question of the week, MIDI's and anything else you can think of!
After you make those pages, you have to LINK them to your index page, so they are accessible to other people. What you have to do, is to go and EDIT your index page. Where ever you want to put the links, you have to put this code: (I'm going to pretend that "your" web site address is www.angelfire.com/up/down/index.html and the new section you want to link is /stuff.html ok?)
REMEMBER: WHEN YOU ARE WRITTING HTML CODES, YOU ALWAYS ALWAYS HAVE < AT THE BEGINNING OF THE CODE...AND YOU ALWAYS FINISH THE CODE WITH >. (Triangles)
NOTE: Instead of using < and >'s, I'll use ^ ^'s instead, but when you write your code, but < >'s where ever I wrote ^ ^'s, k?
^a href="https://www.angelfire.com/up/down/stuff.html"^add a title to it, so people know what it is^/a^
Make sure you always as the ^/a^ at the end of any kind of link. That little code will make sure the link ends there. If you forget to put it, the rest of your page will be one huge link.
Sorry if that was a little complicated, I found no easier way to explain it.
Well, once you've got that under control and you master the art of linking, you've got teh basic web page right there!
There are three basic things you can do for backgrounds. You can either (a)use a solid color background provided to you in the color toolbox (b)Use a patterned background from the Angelfire Images section (c)Get your own Background.
Getting a solid color background is easy. You just click on the color. Getting a patterned background, it a little more complicated, but not very hard either. What you do, is you click on Images on teh Angelfire WEB SHELL, and it will give you teh choice of lot sof htings. Backgrounds, Lines, Balls, Moving Graphics and a couple more. Pick on of the two backgrounds. Wait for them to load, then chose teh one you want. Right click on it, and it shoudl give you a list of of things. Properties should be at the in the list. Click on properties. Once you clikced on properties, it shoudl give you a littel page and give you the ULR of the background. Copy the ULR. Go to the Page where you want to background (edit it) and in box #2, paste that background in there. Click save, and it should work!
Making your own background is a little harder. You can do anything. Draw a picture, scan something...etc. What you have to do though, is once you have the pic or whatever you want SAVED on your desktop, you have to convert it to a GIF file. You need a special converting program for that. Once it is converted, you have to upload it onto your site (just click browse, find the file and click upload, pretty easy) The uploading tool bar should be at the bottom of your WEB SHELL web page. Once you upload it, it will be given the name /images/what you called it.gif . You have to go to box #2 and write your website (www.angelfire.com/up/down/) and at the end of the last slash, write images/what you called it.gif . Save it and it should work. If it doesn't, well, try again. Go troubleshooting for any problems with it.
Lines and bars are just as simple as using a pre-made background. all you have to do it go and find a line, bar, etc. Right click, go to proterties and get the ULR of the image.
Once you have the ULR, edit the page you want it on. You have to put ai a slightly different code for lines, bar..etc though. Where ever on your page that you want the line, or etc. just do this:
^img src="ulr of image"^
That's all you have to do!
And it also applied for other things like MIDI's. If you have a midi that you just took from someone else's site, just do the ^img src="ulr of the midi"^ . But if you uploaded the midi, then once it's on your site, it shoudl have a name like /images/the name of the midi.mid (ThankU, for example, would be images/ThankU.mid What you do, is on your page, write ^img src="your site address/images.ThankU.mid"^ and there you have it!
There are so many tips and tricks for web pages. Like chaing font size and color, blinking lights, underlining, centering, bold...and it can all be done with a few brackets and some letters! It's actually very simple. One thing though, if you make your text , it will only show on Netscape as blinking letters, not on any other browser.
Even I',m not too good at making tables...this is probably the most complicated this I have on my How to Make a Web Site...site. Just pay close attention.
Here's an example using the Brady Family.
What? That's not what you wanted? Oh! You mean you wanted a big funky table with borders and stuff, eh? Ahh...I see.
Was this what you were looking for?
Now, don't be put off by this little ditty. It looks rough, but look again. There are really
only four commands being used again and again. Here's what we use:
^TABLE^ starts and ends the entire thing. I think that
^CAPTION^ and ^/CAPTION^ places a caption over your table. The caption will be bolded and centered. Okay, it's a pretty dull caption. Use it if you'd like or feel free to forget it right here. I just thought I'd show it to you. Heck, you're here aren't you?
^TR^ is used when you want a new Table Row to begin. Notice that you need to end every table row with an ^/TR^. See that above?
^TD^ denotes Table Data. You put this in front of every piece of information you want in a cell.
You need to end every one that you open with an ^/TD^. See how I have that above?
^/TABLE^ ends the whole deal.
Get it? I hope you do...I pesonally find it quit hard, so keep on trying! You'll get it eventually.

To change your font color, just type the following code:
^font color=your color^ write whatever you want to be in that color...and when you want that color to end, you write ^/font^ .
FontColor

^center^ before you want everything centerd...and ^/center^ when you want the centering to stop.
Bold, Underlined, and Italics
The code for bold is: ^b^ to make it bold and ^/b^ when you want it to stop.
Same goes for ^u^ and ^/u^ and ^i^ and ^/i^ .
Spacing
When writing something to put on a web page...if you don't put in a certai code, it will appear as one giant long line. If you are finished a paragraph, and you want to SKIP...
...a line and go right to the next, write ^p^ at the end of the sentence.
If you just want to go to the next line WITHOUT SKIPPING...
...just write ^br^ and it will bring you to the next line.
And if you have just copied and pasted a big huge section onto your page and you don't want to have to go back and add ^p^ and ^br^ at the end of ever sentence, jsut write ^pre^ at the beginning and ^/pre^ at the end, and that means that everything will stay the same as it is written on your edit page.
