DON'T TELL ME

Don't tell me about trouble
troubles not what I need
it usually comes
when life’s rules we do not heed.

Don't tell me about respect
I try to give it to all
until I’m proved they don’t deserve it,
then my respect I do recall.

Don't tell me about trust
it's something money can't buy
but to some, trust has no value
and will squash it like a fly.

Don't tell me about lies
I've heard as many as you
and I still have trouble
deciding what is true.

Don't tell me about pain
I have felt it all before
and of it's deep scars
I don’t want any more.

Don't tell me about love
I have loved like all the rest
but when your love is not returned
it's one of life’s painful tests.

Don't tell me about life
with the hard lessons to learn
I'm told it makes us stronger and wiser
and each must take their own turn.
