Tomorrow

Tomorrow

We walked along the shore
Hand in hand.
The waves caressed our legs,
Our toes squished sand.
A gull dipped down
To snatch a crab from water's edge.
Seashells glistened in the sun
Like jewels, precious ones,
And time stood still

Tonight, we stroll the crystal sand.
Salty mist sprays our cheeks.
We hold each other
And watch the full moon rise—
It's golden glow scatters across whitecaps.
Our footprints disappear
Beneath the rush of waves,
And further in,
A lone sandcastle, untouched
By late night surf
Awaits tomorrow.

This poem was inspired by visits my husband
and I made to our favorite beach.
