Neo Genesis

Back to PokéCards

Neo Genesis has finally arrived! Or at least, in my neighborhood. The new set sports 111 brand-new cards, including the two new types, Metal and Dark. There are also baby Pokémon and cool new Trainer cards, to boot! It's like an entirely new Base Set!

Neo is a lot more promising and better than the past few sets have been. It has a lot of more useful and powerful cards than in the previous two Gym sets. There's even a brand-new Promo card to go along with the set! It's promo #29, Marril, and you can get it at your local Pokémon league now!

The Haymaker and Tournament scene will most likely also be disrupted with all-new cool trainers, like Super Rod and Professor Elm. I've landed my feathers on a few neo packs, and I have five holos from the new set, Including: Azumarril, Heracross, Jumpluff, Kingdra, and Typhlosion. I also have a rare Sneasel card, which may find itself in new Haymaker decks. Sadly enough, my scanner broke when I was scanning my holos, so I'll have to describe a few of them, instead.

Flip a coin. If heads, this attack does 60 damage plus 20 more damage and does 20 damage to Typhlosion. If tails, this attack does 60 damage.

Azumarill
Water-type/Stage1/70HP
(C)(C) Tackle 20
(W)(W)(W) Bubble Shower 30
Flip a coin. If heads, the defending Pokémon is now paralyzed and this attack does 10 damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokémon. (Don't apply weakness or resistance for benched Pokémon.)
Weakness:Electric Resistance:None Retreat:-(C)

All these cards are really good and I'll start off by explaining what I like about Sneasel. Sneasel, being a Dark Pokémon, has no weakness, genrally making it stronger. 60HP isn't shabby for a basic, either. Now, Sneasel could really fit into any deck with its first attack, but it would be great in a Dark deck. Its second attack allows it to do up to a whopping 120 damage (like that'll really happen), on a full bench. Sneasel can mainly be an annoyance with a free retreat, which really makes it good.

Typhlosion, on the other hand, is like a really good charizard (with no resistance). I like Typhlosion because you don't have to discard any energy to be able to attack. Its Pokémon Power is very handy, since Fire-types tend to eat up a lot of energy. Typhlosion's attack is a bit expensive, but its power helps with that. Giving out 80 damage per turn can be devastating, even if typhlosion does hurt itself a little. That's where a defender would come in handy.

And finally, little Azumarill. It is awesome. Tackle is okay for 20 damage per turn, but Bubble Shower is what really takes the cake. 30 damage and 3 energy may seem kind of bad, but the attacks capabilities are very good. Bubble Shower is mainly like a little Blizzard, being able to paralyze your opponent and damage their bench is cool. plus, you don't hurt yourself if you get a tails, unlike Articuno. One retreat and 70HP guarantee it'll be out there for a while. Perfect in any water deck.

There are two new decks along with the set, as well! Cold Fusion and Hotfoot. I don't have a list of what specific cards are in each deck, but that should be coming soon! Here are pics of each deck:

That's all I have so far. Too bad my scanner's broken, otherwise I'd scan my holos and possibly some other cards. For now, I leave you a checklist of the entire set.
