Site called http://webspawner.com/cc/html/alpha.htm

Guide to html code – more info about it.  All attributes.

http://www.webmonkey.com/ as has good sources.  We’ll get to that.

Another thing to check logging on to telnet.  Connect, if problems with clicking on preselected.  Remote:  keep lowercase: Maybe person before you played with the settings.  Completely close it.  Get coffee. Come back.

WEB PAGE DESIGN-

Design principles

Alignment

Items of page line up.  Not all centered.  Choose one alignment, use on all page.  Don’t mix alignments.  Suggest flush left, but with a margin.  Don’t type in all caps.  Don’t use caps and italics.  What I’ve read in this book and others.

Proximity

Don’t orphan – put related items to gether, within a headline, make visual.  Break command keeps it closer together.

Repetition

Suggest use repetitiveness as a theme.  However, cute picture on front page, large.  Use smaller version so they don’t get mixed up with initial page so show belong all together.  E.g. same background.  Make template and repeat for other pages.  Illustration, layout, etc.

Contrast

Draw someone’s eye to the page.  Sometimes don’t know where to begin to look.

White space is not bad.  Not too crowded.  Not to small.

-         today, finish index.html, and lots of tags.

One student recommends a certain page as bad:  Netscape.com

Bring up apple page http://www.apple.com/

Links to everything in the work http://hotsheet.com/

http://www.hotsheets.com/

Has some flash.  Will talk about it next week.

Bad is http://www.hawaiantravel.com/ all big text -  too centered, to large.  Non-uniform.

Best index page.  Then storyboard down below, big mama’s address, recipies, etc.

In syllabus – http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/ has jobs, tutorials.  Design to home page not best.
