During the legislative session of 1992, House Bill Number 460 sponsored by Representatives Jones, Malone, and Hines became law and is now referred to as Chapter No. 306. This is the Mississippi Adoption Confidentiality Law. This bill was a watershed event for all of us who want to know more about their pasts. This legislation allows for the acquisition of non-identifying information by specific persons and authorizes certain agencies to conduct searches for certain information from birth parents. It also provides that the adopted person over 21 years of age may request identifying information from certain agencies and so on.
