What's the different between Attack and Special Attack? Defense and Special Defence? Refer to this chart to understand what they mean, and so you know the best strategy when an opponent uses Reflect or Light Screen.

Attack - This stat affects the amount of damage a Pokémon gives when it uses Physical Attacks. Special attacks have no affect with this stat. Watch out for Pokémon like Stantler or Miltank when they use Physical Attacks, because if they have high Attack power like Onix, their Physical Attacks will do quite a bit against your Pokémon, but it matters how high your Pokémon's Defense is. Being Burned from a Fire attack will lower your Attack power a lot.

Physical Attacks include Normal, Fighting, Flying, Poison, Ground, Rock, Bug, Ghost, and Steel. If a Pokémon uses Reflect, it will cut these attacks by half so that means use your Special Attacks on them.

Defense - This is an important stat to all Pokémon. Rock type Pokémon have so high of a Defence, Physical Attacks will do barley any damage to them. This is only Defense against Physical attacks, in otherwords, their Attack power. If a Pokémon has a really high Defense, but a low Special Defense, it won't last long against Special Attacks. The Defense stat won't protect you from Special Attacks.

Special Attack - This stat determines how much your Pokémon will damage your opponent using Special Attacks. This would be the exact same thing as the Attack power, but this time it's the Special Attacks. How high a Pokémon's Special Defense is how much it could block your Special Attacks. The exact same thing as the above except with Special Attacks.

Special Attacks include Fire, Water, Ice, Electric, Grass, Psychic, Dragon, and Dark. If a Pokémon uses Light Screen, it will cut these attacks by half so that means use your Physical Attacks on them.

Special Defense - This is the opposite of Defense. If a Pokémon has so much Special Defense, Special Attacks won't do much damage. Get it? Attack and Defense are together, and Special Attack and Special Defense are also together. Use your Physical Attacks if a Pokémon has high Special Defense, but low Defense. This stat will determine how much damage a Special Attack will give. This stat won't protect you from Physical Attacks.

Speed - A Pokémon that has high Speed would be going first in a battle. If your Pokémon has higher Speed than the opponent's Pokémon, yours would go first. If you think the opponent would have a Pokémon that could wipe out all of your Pokémon, Speed is great so you can try and take them out in one hit.

Most speedy Pokémon include Abra, Kadabra, Alakazam, Voltorb, Electrode, Sneasel, Zapdos, and Mewtwo. If you're Parlyzed but have higher speed, the other Pokémon would go first because being Parlyzed cuts down your Speed by a whole lot. If you're competing with a Slowpoke, one of the slowest Pokémon of them all and you're Parylzed, you may have a chance to attack first Parylzed or not.
