Synopsis: Based on the Tombraider video game, a female action
hero rescues a time traveling device from the bad guys.
Ok, first of all, let's
discuss Angelina Jole. She is an awesome, Oscar winning actress, and
though is film is not horrible, it is beneath her. There's only so much
even a great actor can do with the material given, and the material
given Jole was not much. However, she did do her best with it, making
the film better than another actress might be able to. Also, you have to
respect her for doing all her own stunts. It's nice to see a strong female
in a typically male type role. A notable Lara Croft scenes is the one where
she goes back in time to speak to her dead father (played by Jole's real life father, Jon Voigt) , an emotional moment
revealing another side to the character's usual kick ass personality.
Admittingly, I am not partial to these action type movies, like
Indiana Jones or the Mummy. But even so, I can tell the difference, and
Tombraider simply doesn't meet the story of Indiana or the special
effects of the Mummy Returns. Really, the only thing that makes this film worth
seeing is Jole herself.
Just another mediocre actionflick with
a mediocre plot, and mediocre effects.
