I really like Jim Carrey, and I think it would be awesome if one day, he would be nominated for an Oscar. He did such an amazing job in Man on the Moon. Friends say he literally became Andy Kauffman. Perphaps he was deserving of recognition for that role, but sorry Jim, I just do not think this is going to be your year...again..for an Oscar. The Majestic, unfortunately, is too average a movie. The characters are largely forgettable. Carrey did a great job with the character he was given. But the character was just so average, it was the character himself with the flaws.

The theme and moral of the story is very noble. A man with no convictions learns the value of convictions by being mistaken for a man who had concrete convictions. I get the moral of the story, and I agree, but in the context of the film, I wasn't drawn into the emotional climax. That was a big problem with the movie, you just aren't drawn into the story. It was really long, for one thing. As for the love story between Adele and Peter/ Luke, I just wasn't convinved. I had a hard time accepting that they really fell in love with eachother. There was some good acting by Jim Carrey, and some nice, feel good kind of moments, and even a laugh or two. But it is just too average to be anything special.
