Synopsis: An obsessed fan of rock band Steel Dragon gets his chance to be the new lead singer when the original is kicked out of the band.
I definately enjoyed this movie. I was interested all the way through. I cannot say however that it is extraordinarily made, it was just a really interesting subject to me and I really think those who made the movie did a great job of keeping the subject interesting. First of all, I love Jennifer Aniston, being a huge Friends fan. There are so many young people out thre in love with rock music, and who dream of the opportunity to live the rockstar lifestyle. Chris (Mark Wahlberg) gets that very opportunity. Any musicians out there struggling to make it that far will love watching Chris party and have tons of girls anxious to sleep with him. The rock star fantasy is one dreamed of by so many people, so the plot itself is interesting.
The characters are not just one dimensional, the movie is not just a thoughtless party movie. Chris has been with his girlfriend (Aniston) for years. She stands behind him and believes in him. When he makes it, she goes with him. The very life she wanted for him however puts a strain on their relationship, and this is a large part of the plot and helps you understand the characters. The theme of the movie is not simply "a wannabe who got to be". Chris has idolized the original Steel Dragon singer. He talks like him, wears his same clothes, sings like him. He even has a tribute Steel Dragon band, in which they only play Dragon songs, rather than creating his own. He essentially became him. Being a rock star was great, but he has to at some point find out who he is, be that person, and perform his own music. It teaches everything you've dreamed of isn't worth it if you can't get it by being yourself, which is a good lesson. As for the music, it is much like Bon Jovi.
Bottomline: Definately interesting enough and worth your admission price.
