Because this is a remake of "It's a Mad, Mad, World, a lot of critics have compared it to that movie. Apparently, Rat Race simply doesn't come close. I have never seen the original, thus I can only give my opinion of the remake itself. The opening credits are original and interesting. The characters from the movie are made into little cartoons with the actors real faces. So that cute beginning had me interested. Once the movie began, I did have a few laughs. The problem was, the longer the movie went on, the more outrageous the gags got, and, unfortunately, the less funny. The closer it got towards the end, the less I laughed. However, two characters stood out, surprisingly, the two I least expected to be funny. The guy who played Bean in Mr. Bean and Amy Smart from Road Trip. Kudos to them. Of course, they were just given the good parts.
A big problem I had was the scenes that were intended to be humourous, but turned out be just gross or dumb. Like a scene with a human heart being transported and the driver who decides to take a look at it. There just wasn't enough funny incidents that were actually funny. However, I did notice the rest of the audience laughing a lot.
I was interested in finding out what happens in the end, but at the same time, I was just bored with getting there and wished the movie would speed along. I did like what happened with the money, but not how it happened. And as for the band in the end, I wasn't too impressed either.
Bottomline:What can I say? Just another average movie. Go see American Pie 2 or Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back instead.
