Synopsis: A california blonde gets dumped for someone more serious, so she follows her ex east to Harvard Law School to win him back.
No, Reese Witherspoon will not be nominated for an Oscar, or even a golden globe. There are no dazzling special effects or enthralling action sequences. It appears to be another less than mediocre teeny bobber flick. On the contrary, like Clueless, it stands apart from other flicks of it's genre.
More than a love story, although she does win the right guy's heart in the end, this movie's theme is discovering who you are and being true to yourself regardless of what others think about you. Unlike many movies teens flock to see daily, this one gives young girls a positive message which goes much deeper than hair and nail tips.
Even beyond the good message, Legally Blonde is very enjoyable and humorous. You won't get bored. Many times, actresses attempting to portray the dumb blonde completely overdo it, making the character less than funny. Reese Witherspoon, however, does a wonderful job of playing the typical blonde but with depth, emotion, character.
Bottomline: It's enjoyable, fun, and probably better suited for females. And if you are a guy, the gorgeous Reese will entertain you even if the plot doesn't.
Okay, this is a note months, months, later after I wrote this review. The golden globe nominations are out, and, I stand corrected, Reese Witherspoone WAS nomintated for a golden globe after all.
