Synopsis: In the fifth and final Kevin Smith film in which Jay and Silent Bob appear, the pair embark on a journey to Hollywood to stop a movie from being made about the comic book series based on themselves.
If you haven't seen Dogma, Chasing Amy, Clerks, and Mallrats, or at least 3/4 of them, then there is very little point in seeing Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back. In the others, you do not need to have seen any other films to get it, because it had it's own unique story. The latest Kevin Smith creation, however, is entirely dependant on the other films. The plot in itself is really just an excuse to make tons of allusions to the previous films, as well as several other movies like The Fugitive, and Scream. Characters like the two store clerks from Clerks appear, as well as the three main characters from Chasing Amy, along with a slew of others previously appearing in Kevin Smith films. The movie is a looking back on past adventures, and adding some funny new moments along the way. If it seems like I am complaing about the constant allusions to the other movies, I am not. That's what makes this one so funny.
The new stuff was also pretty funny. The new character with the biggest part is Justice, played by Shannon Elizabeth. She and her friends frame Jay and Silent Bob for their own crime, but in the process, Justice falls in love with.....Jay???? yes, thats right. She always gets the gross guys in her movies. A cute monkey also gets a pretty good role. I keep saying "pretty good", because thats exactly what the whole film was...pretty good. Without all the allusions to the Kevin Smith movies, the plot would be pretty weak, but luckily the film is saved by that humor.
Bottomline:Kevin Smith fans will love it. Newcomers, rent the other 4 movies, then go see it.
