Synopsis: Two parents are concerned about their college aged son's involvement with a single mother, but when tragedy strikes, they have larger worries.
From what I had heard about this movie, I thought it was going to be something completely different. About a quarter of the way into the movie something happens that changes the entire story. I cant even say what it is, except that it is a tragedy. The film ends up being about the people involved dealing with that tragedy. Which doesn't make the movie bad at all, just something different than I expected.
Although the movie was not the most exciting, it was done incredibly well, making it above average. The acting was awesome. I have always loved Marisa Tomei, and once again she delivers an outstanding performance. Sissy Spacek, too, was awesome.
Nominated for 3 Golden Globes, I would only agree with two of the nominations. Sissy Spacek for best actress in a drama, and Marisa Tomei for best supporting actress. I am not quite sure I would nominate it for Best Drama Picture, and I doubt it will be one of the five nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
Bottomline: If you are a film buff, then finding the one theater in your town that is playing this movie (being an independant film) would be worth it. I doubt most movie goers will be able to enjoy it though.
