THE NEVER
MADE BOND FILMS
The
James Bond series is a fantastic collection of films. Containing
exellent storylines, characters, and
even some terrific titles. The Writers and Producers have come up
with some exellent ideas that
feature in the films. But not all the ideas make it into the
films, lots of suggestions and possible plots
are considered, drafted then altered. Most likely there have been
a ton of ideas never used and desided
against for various reasons, below is just a few of the more
famous ones.
Storylines Never used
Diamonds
Are Forever - The Original ideas
for this film were far different from the eventual result of
Blofeld living it up in Vegas. After OHMSS lack of
profit making abilies, the producers desided to try
and recapture the succes of Goldfinger. This lead to, ofcourse
the return of Sean Connery, Signer
Shirley Bassey and Director Guy Hamilton. But the original
storyline had Gert Frobe returning, this
time as Goldfingers brother. One of the line sproposed ofr
Goldfingers twin was "I think you knew my
brother Auric. Mother always said he was a bit retarded." But
ofcourse it never eventuated.
The
Spy who Loved Me - Orginally saw the return of
Blofeld and SPECTRE, who were overtaken by
terrorist. This could be why Stromberg is a very Blofeld like
villain. The way he disposed of the traitor
and blows up the helicopter in his first scene brough back
memories of the bald one, plus his logo is
alot like the SPECTRE one. SPECTRE were kept out of the because
of legal reasons, this would result
in the For Your Eyes Only pretitle scene in which
someone we assume to be Blofeld is disposed of.
A
View to a Kill - The idea of Zorin
destroying Silicon Valley was always going to be, but early
script
ideas had Zorin altering the course of Haleys Comet to do it,
this was most likely considered too far
feteched. A scene filmed but cut from the film (now shown as an
extra on the SE DVD) sees Bond
getting out of jail, showing objects from From Russia With
Love and Octopussy. I thought it would have
made a nice touch and I wish they left it in the film.
Titles Never used
Colonel
Sun - The Bond adventure written by
Kingsly Amis. A favorite amoung some novel fans who
have been calling for it to be made into a movie for years. May
have been considered once or twice.
From
A View to a Kill - The End credits of Octopussy
annonced that "James Bond will return in From
A View to a Kill'. The title being that of an Ian Fleming
short story. I'm not sure why the 'From' was
discarded, maybe the thought it made the title too long.
Personally I would have kept the 'From',
especially after already annoncing it, but it doesn't really make
a difference.
Licence
Revoked - Was changed to Licence to
Kill. because is was suggested that American
audiences wouldn't know what the meaning of the word 'revoked'. M
still says "revoked" when he
accepts Bond resignation.
Tomorrow
Never Lies - This was the original title
for the 18th Bond flick, and when you think about, its
actually alot more relevent to the movie. A typo on the script
replacing the 'L' for a 'D' (hard to imagine since
they're on opposite sides of the keyboard) resulted in the now
familiar Tomorrow Never Dies, the
name stuck.
Pressure
Point - A considered title for The
World is not Enough. Obviously a reference to Bonds injury,
the title was discarded in favor of the latter, which is ofcourse
Bonds family motto, shown in On Her
Mayestys Secret Service
