The Killing Zone
By James Hatfield

In 1985, James Hatfield wrote and published an unofficial Bond novel called The Killing Zone. He claimed it was published by Glidrose, but they had not published it. It was almost certainly self-published.
The novel begins with the death of Bill Tanner by Klaus Doberman, a South American drug lord, who is also the main villain of the book. Once Bond finds out, he immediately goes to seek revenge, despite MI6 not supporting him. Bond will get help from Felix Leiter and a woman named Lotta Head (no, really). He has to fight a very lethal ninja, and infiltrate Doberman's hideout in the Sierra Madres. He defeats Doberman, but the ending to the book is, well...unusual.
I have read this book, and it is surprisingly not bad. Hatfield has Bond do some things that he normally never would, and as I said above, the ending just wouldn't work for a Bond novel. However, if one reads the novel in the context that it is a self-published fan fiction, it is quite entertaining. If you've read all of the official novels, I suggest giving this one a try next. It can be found at Universal Exports website: http://www.universalexports.net/
