Never Say Never Again was produced by Talia Films in 1983. Sean Connery wanted to return to the role of James Bond for one last time. Since he was the original Bond, the producer of NSNA wanted to accommodate him. Since Moore had already committed to the official Bond movie of 1983(Octopussy), the only way to let Connery play the role was to use a loophole in the ownership rights of the Thunderball. Since Connery owned part of the rights, he was allowed to make a remake of the movie.
This is the first time that any Bond movie would have competition, so both movies that year were going for broke. In NSNA, a few changes were made to the plot of Thunderball, and some details were changed (like Domino's last name). Other than that, the plot of nuclear weapons being stolen by SPECTRE, to hold the world hostage remains.
MY GRADE: A-  Connery proves that he can still play the role of James Bond. To me, the fact that this is an unofficial Bond does not lessen its effect. Also, Connery is older in this movie, but he plays Bond as an older character, undergoing tests to see if he can still cut it. Moore was even older than Connery at this time, but was still trying to pull of a younger Bond.
BEST MOMENT: Q gets to say the best line of the entire movie, and one of the best lines in all of Bond. It sums up what Bond is all about: "Things have been awfully dull 'round here... Now you're on this. I hope we're gonna have some gratuitous sex and violence." Bond simply replies, "I hope so to."
ALSO NOTABLE: *Connery reveals Bond's wit and humor expertly when he hands the bouncer his cigarette case and tells him it has a gyroscopic bomb. If he moves, he blows up. Quite a while later Bond pops back in on the guard to nonchalantly pick up his case, making sure to say "thank you."
*Bond playing Largo at Domination is an interesting scene. In the end, Bond says that he never loses. He's right.

Here are a few sound bites from the movie:
