Sean Connery returns to the silver screen in his last official appearance at Bond. This movie is a welcome relief from OHMSS. The movie starts out with Bond on an almost fanatical hunt to find Blofeld. It would appear that he succeeded, but it would turn out to be otherwise.
The plot appears to be a relatively simple case of diamond smuggling. Even Bond himself is reluctant to take the case. That is, until he discovers that it involves a fiendish plot by Blofeld to create a super powerful laser. Bond is at once on the case, and manages to foil Blofeld's plans once again.
A NOTE ABOUT THE SONG: Diamonds are Forever was composed by John Barry, and sung by Shirley Bassey. The song mid-charted on both US and UK charts.
MY GRADE: B  This movie is not Connery's best. For the most part, it lacked a strong villain for most of the movie. However, it had action and suspense, and when compared to OHMSS, it looks quite good.
BEST MOMENT: The opening scene shows that Bond is quite capable of being rough and tough. Bond searches for Blofeld, not letting anything get in his way. When he finds "Blofeld" and kills him, it is a very powerful moment. However, it loses a little of its punch when we see that he didn't really kill Blofeld.
ALSO NOTABLE: The chase with Bond in the "Lunar Module" is, in my opinion, the most original chase in all of the Bond's even if it isn't the most exciting.
DID YOU NOTICE...*In the car chase scene, Bond gets the car up on its right wheels to enter a very narrow alley. However, when he comes out, the car is on its left wheels, with the right side up. The producers noticed this, but rather than fix the difficult scene, they quickly added a shot of the car's interior as it shifts from right set of wheels to left set of wheels. However, this would have been impossible in the narrow alley.
*The script originally had the main villain be Goldfinger's twin brother.
*An American actor named John Gabbon almost became Bond. He had even signed a contract to be Bond, but when Connery returned he stepped aside.
