LOVE DOESN'T ASK WHY
Chapter Five

Rose packed her things, because she was going to spend her last night as a single woman with her best friend, Jessica. She said good-bye to Mark and took her Ford to her friend’s apartment. When she knocked on the door, her strawberry blonde-haired friend answered it.

"Hey. Come on in. Make yourself comfy," Jessica said, opening the door wider.

"Thanks," Rose said, carrying her bags and dress.

"Oh, here. Let me take that," Jessica said, grabbing the wedding dress. When they got settled, Rose told Jessica about meeting Jack. "He sounds like my dream man," Jessica said, laughing.

"Jessica, I'm so glad that you are my maid of honor," Rose said, smiling.

"I'll be your maid of honor anytime," Jessica said, laughing. "Are you nervous about the wedding?"

"No, I'm not," Rose said proudly.

"You’re having second thoughts, though, aren't you?" Jessica asked. There was no reply from Rose. "Rose DeWitt Bukater, you are having seconds thoughts, now, aren't you?"

"I never said that I was," Rose said coolly.

"You are, though. I’ll bet that ever since you met this Jack guy you’ve been head over heels for him," Jessica said, chuckling.

"All right!" Rose shouted. "Maybe I am having second thoughts, but they’re just regular ones, okay?"

Meanwhile...

"All right, now. Jack, I have all of my things. Your things are packed, and don't forget the tickets!" Maria said, picking up her bags. "I love you, and I'll see you at the wedding. Here is the number of Margie’s apartment if there is something wrong." Maria gave Jack the number, and she kissed him and headed out the door.

Jack leaned against the door, and said, "Phew!" Jack had one of his friends coming over, Mike. He was his best man, so Mike decided that he would bring over some movies to watch. Jack heard a knock on the door. He answered, saying, "Hey, Mike!"

Mike smiled. "Hey, Jack."

Mike was holding movies in one arm, and a bag in the other.

"Come on in," Jack said. Mike stepped in, and Jack closed the door behind him.

"Wow. Maria already went over to Margie’s?" Mike asked, setting down the brown paper bag.

"Yup. Hey, man, what's in the bag?" Jack asked Mike.

"Food and some wedding presents just for you," Mike said, smiling.

"What did you get me, Mike?" Jack asked, smiling.

"Well, why don't you look?" Mike asked, showing him the bag. Jack looked in the bag and saw a portable CD player and the new Papa Roach CD. "I thought you might need something to listen to just in case Maria blows her top," Mike said, chuckling.

Jack chuckled, saying, "I might need that."

Mike was shocked. "Jack, are you and Maria already getting into it?"

"No," Jack said, looking at the portable CD player.

"Jack, you’re not having second thoughts, are you?" Mike asked, worried.

"No," Jack said, but Mike could tell that something was bothering Jack.

"Jack, come on. Talk to me," Mike said, sitting down next to Jack.

"I met the most beautiful girl, and I can't get her out of my mind. She's like a drug. I can't get her out of my system," Jack said, running his fingers through his hair.

"Well, I know something that will help you. I brought movies," Mike said, and they spent the night watching movies.
