Gekko Wheels: How To

From this.......................to this quick and easy.

Supplies

After painting the rim color I use Tamiya 18mm tape to cover the rim. Tamiya tape works well because it is thinner then most other masking tapes.

Burnish the tape down with a toothpick or similar tool.

Carefully scribe and cut out around the rim with a sharp T pin.

After it is cut pull the tape off and you have a mask.

Paint the wheel your favorite tire color.

Pop off the mask and you get this. It may be a little rough but that is okay we are going to take care of that.

And this is how. I use brown inks for a lot of washes.

After the ink wash the tire may be a little shinny but we will take care of that too.

By far my favorite paint...artist oils.

After a good dry brushing with titanium white. It softens, highlights, and makes it matte.

Lastly a dusting of special sauce. Special sauce is just a dirt color wash 50-65% thinner, Burnt sienna, RAL browns, leather, black, and green, whatever just a very thin wash of "dirt" and just "dust" some on with an airbrush. Wheels are done. Took about 10-15min to do these.
