"Double Take" Rated PG-13

If you have seen the trailer, you have seen most of the funniest parts of this movie. Especially the part with Daryl (Orlando Jones, the hilarious guy from the 7-Up commercials) asking for malt liquor and yelling at the waiter for not having any. The story centers around Daryl, a very well off broker who is falsely accused of killing two cops in his apartment. Off he goes to Mexico. But at the train station the is a surprise waiting. Enter Freddie Tiffany, internationally know low life and petty con artist who was already coned Daryl once. He convinces him that to survive this conspiracy, Daryl will need his help. Ands so as the adds say, "the switch is on".
It's just a shame it doesn't stay on. Instead of centering around how the two switch personalities and create all sorts of trouble, it focus on.... I don't really know. Some kind of conspiracy involving EVERYONE! After they get off the train taking them to Mexico, which featured many funny moments of the switch, the whole thing just about goes to hell. From then on the story takes about 8 plot twists too many as the view questions every character in the film. The main character in questioning is Freddie. Is he just a petty con or a FBI agent?
Eddie Griffin's performance as the absolutely insane Freddie is very funny. His language, manner, and even his face lends itself to making him a very smart casting choice. Orlando Jones, however, didn't have much room to fool around with in his character. His character is subdued, so he doesn't have much of a chance to let his comedy show. He was much funnier in his commercials and in The Replacements. Again, if you have seen the trailer, you have seen most of the funniest parts.
