Orange County starring Colin Hanks (yes, that's right, son of Tom) is not a very remarkable movie. It also stars Schuyler Fisk (daughter of Sissy Spacak), and a host of cameos including Jon LIthgow, Katherine OHerra, Lilly Tomlin, Ben Stiller, Harold Ramis, Kevin Kline, Chevy Chase and many more. However, the real star of the movie is Jack Black. Last year in my annual "Johnnys" section I said Jack Black would be the comedian to watch, and indeed he is. He's had a great year. His extremely funny and entertaining band Tenacious D released their first CD, he had his first starring role in Shallow Hal, and hosted Saturday NIght Live on the 20th. He steals this show with only a little bit of screen time.
The movie is about Shaun, a high school student in Orange County, CA trying very hard to get into Stanford so he can escape the craziness in Orange County. This craziness is shown by his alcoholic mother, his money obsessed father, his drug addict brother (Black), and all those cameos I talked about before. When a misunderstanding gets him rejected from Stanford, his brother agrees to take him up there to get things straightened out.
When you look back on it, not much happens in the movie. And it does get really corny at time. But God, Jack Black is hilarious. All of the laughs come from him, and if your a fan, or enjoy his humor, its worth seeing.
