The Mummy Returns

"The Mummy Returns" Rated PG-13
***/*****

The sequel to the big blockbuster event of 1999, The Mummy, is built off of the success of the first film. However, the sequel has much more chase scenes, more risen bad guys, more special effects, and also the Rock.

The Rock stars as The Scorpion King, the leader of a great army who, in his final moment gives his soul to the dark lord Anubus if he were to let him live. The Rock is later taken to the underworld with his army to be risen again and take over the world if unbeaten. If anyone can kill the Scorpion King and sent his army back to the underworld, they will have control over the world. Centuries later in 1933, we meet Rick O'Connell (Brandon Frasier) and Eve now married with an eight-year old son, Alex. They find a mysterious case containing the bracelet of the Scorpion King which everyone is after. The evil curator of the British Museum and his henchman raise the mummy Imhotep from the first movie and that's when the chase begins (between the mummy and Rick. There have already been a couple battle sequences.)

As you may have guessed, this film is all special effects and all crappy dialogue, cheesy plot twists, and predictability. I'll give credit where credit is due and say the special effects are presented frequently and are outstanding. Also the movie isn't boring. It's constantly moving somewhere but usually there is no reason for it to do so. There are many battle scenes and chase scenes that are fun to watch also. However, the most I had watching this movie was making fun of it. Most of the people around me where laughing at the insanely trite jokes, so if you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one. Overall, this film is pretty fun to watch, but beyond that there is nothing at all.
