Down to Earth starring Chris Rock is about an aspiring stand up comic (seems like a stretch) who constantly plays at the Apollo despite his always horrible reception that has earned him the nick name "Booey". Coming home from his latest failure, he is hit be a truck and goes up to heaven. There he meets two angels (Eugene Levy and Chazz Palminteri) who apologize for taking him a good 40 years before his death should be and promise to put him back on earth until his time. Until they find a "suitable" body, Rock agrees to live in the body of a cold hearted corporate millionaire. One of the millionaire’s adversary, a nurse at Brooklyn Hospital named Sontee, is the girl of his dreams. Rock's next to goal is to get her to go out with him and then...um...well not much. After that there is not much of a plot.
Chris Rock's hilarious stand up is incorporated well into the movie and, for those of us that haven't heard it already, serves as some very funny material. There is also some original stuff that gets a laugh too. Over all, the big laughs are slim but, I must admit, that when they do come they are very funny.
The movie suffers from an over all lack of plot, but the biggest down fall has to be the unintentionally funny over dramatic scenes which are incredibly out of place in a movie like the this. If you are a big fan of Chris Rock then check it out, but if not don't waste your money and wait for video.
