Rose
"The ocean is big and blue, I just want to sink to the bottom with you..."
My Opinion
The first time I saw the epic film, Titanic, was December 19, 1997, the day it opened. I returned to the theater 7 times within following months. No, I didn't see it so repeatedly because I have no life, or because I gush over Leonardo DiCaprio, or because I'm obsessed by anything else in it. I devoted so much time to it because I think it's the single best love story I've ever seen, and I've never felt the wide range and intensity of emotion I felt watching this film. I wrote this poem to capture the film in my writing. I hope you enjoy it.
Rose
A short time before,
A delicate girl
Dreading the life in front of her.
Now a strong woman
Who floats above everyone
As she heads out for the horizon.
Her fuel is his love for her.
Her guide is his everlasting spirit.
When her life took that sharp turn
He wouldn't let her quit.
Her past-
An ocean of memories...
She had been chained
To a demon in disguise.
Her heart ached
To break free, or rather die.
Her riches
Only made her feel weighed down.
All her silenced wishes,
Held deep inside.
Became the worse hopelessness
She couldn't fight.
She ran and ran-
Her emotions breaking free.
She searched for a way out-
But death was the only option to see.
She saw her whole life now-
Surrounded by arrogance and false-loving.
As she put her feet to the edge,
She heard a voice.
She suddenly turned from her end,
And laid eyes on a worried boy,
With sparkling blue eyes
And a cigarette between his fingers.
She warned him to stay back and let her die,
But he approached her, seeing the tears.
Slowly he calmed her with his words
And a ray of sunlight
Shone into her clouded world-
As she smiled.
He held his hand out.
In a surreal moment,
She realized she trusted him.
She wouldn't admit
That her heart skipped a beat
As her hand touched his.
He had saved her,
In every way she could have been saved,
Though it didn't occur
That anything had changed.
They stepped back to safety,
Staring into each other's eyes
In the darkness of the night.
She was suddenly able to breathe-
As she'd never been able to before.
He moved her heart and made her sing,
Until the demon took her back through the door.
That night she laid awake
Thinking of the freedom she'd felt with him.
The demon's love for her was fake,
More material than true.
What did she have to lose?
She saw hope in her life
When she was with him-
Not yet another lie,
Like the demon.
The decision was hers to make-
Live on in an unfeeling world
With a man of ice,
Or let him teach her the cure
For that demon that grasped her so tight.
Death or life-
When death was all she'd ever known.
She knew she was right
When she decided to go.
She approached him from behind-
He was practically a stranger
Yet she felt she'd known him all her life.
It was so natural
To hold hands
And talk about their demons
And their past.
He was breathtakingly fresh
As he told her about the moon
And his nights out West
Where he promised to take her soon.
She laughed and laughed-
Music to his ears,
When he said
With many tears
She was the most amazing girl
He'd ever met.
The moon was a pearl
In the darkness of night-
As they built their fire-
It all seemed so right.
No one had ever taken the time
To ask her how she really felt.
It was something she thought she'd never find,
Until she met him and finally could tell.
She moved him in a certain way
That made his heart quake.
Take me to the stars,
She said, as they laid in the back of the car.
So they trembled like children
As their passions grew,
Boiling to the rim
As they moved.
She was living
And breathing-
As they became each other.
They would stay
Forever that way.
Wild and carefree,
They ran from her world.
There was no trouble at sea
As far as they were concerned,
When the unimaginable happened,
Bringing everything to a holt.
A tragedy
No one could stop.
Suddenly they were surrounded by panic,
And torn apart.
The demon found her
But she told him he had no heart
As she slapped him hard
And ran so far...
Searching for the link
To her newfound passion.
She was too driven to see
The horror everyone was in.
So many obstacle in her way,
But somehow her heart went on.
When they were reunited, there was nothing to say,
Except cling to each other so long.
Hand in hand,
They faced almost certain death.
There seemed to be some silent command-
"Trust him", it said.
As they disappeared into their murky destiny,
she did not panic.
The main key
Was being together,
And in his mind, that was all to see.
Beneath the stars
The life began to leave them.
They had come so far,
But almost too late.
As the chill made it's way to his heart,
Her newly renewed spirit began to fade.
He fiercly told her not to stop
And never give up.
She cried a lot,
Not able to look up.
He gently touched her face,
Telling her not to quit.
He told her she'd be saved,
And she must believe it.
"No matter how hopeless,
Never give up,"
He said,"And hold onto that promise
And never let go."
She promised him with all her soul.
She gripped his hand tighter,
And waited.
Death's door was getting wider
As she closed her eyes and turned away.
Then she saw it-
The answer to her prayers.
Her eyes lit
Then dimmed to black when she saw his.
Her heart stopped beating,
As she gazed at his peaceful face.
She felt her soul ripping
When she realized this had been his fate.
He no longer moved,
And was absolutely still.
He was gone too soon-
She thought, as her eyes began to fill.
She let go of his hand,
And watched him fade away.
The man
That won her heart in only three days.
Now she watches the sun rise
In the West.
She is radiant and full of life-
Never willing to rest.
His spirit carries her
Through rain and shine.
Love touched her once,
And lasted a lifetime.
