came or did she get herself free from the refrigerator and run after him. If she did run after him, was it to try and catch him still or was it to make sure he was all right.
Doctor Lecter’s thought’s were halted when he turned over to page four. There was a picture of Clarice that evening, after the police came. She was still in the dress and she was sitting on a grass bank looking out over the water, holding her head in her hands. The title of the report was "Lecter gets away again…but only just". There was a sub heading saying "FBI agent Clarice Starling failed in her valiant attempt to catch Hannibal ‘the cannibal’ Lecter but killer is injured".
The report was fairly boring. It said very little about what happened that evening, just that Paul Krendler was dead, Clarice was shaken but all right. However, her career was still in doubt as she had rescued Lecter from Mason Verger and killed three people. It was mentioned, Hannibal noticed, that he had saved Clarice’s life after she’d been shot.
There was a small bit of quote from Clarice about what happened "He had me trapped but I managed to cuff him. He didn’t want to get caught so he picked up a knife and took his own hand of so he could escape". Who ever was interviewing her had asked why Lecter had taken his own hand of rather than hers but according to the newspaper she had refused to comment.
Lecter let his eyes wonder back to the picture of Clarice. You could only really see her back and her pony tail but he found himself exploring her back with his eyes. He had wished she hadn’t of called the police till a little bit later as he had wanted to have time to try and talk to her properly and be able to admire her in the dress. Although he had enjoyed killing that annoying, arrogant and rude Paul Krendler part of him wished he’d done it quicker and before she had woke up so he had had ten minutes to talk to her rather than disgust her. His mind wandered back to the events of that night again.
That night on at Krendler’s summer house he’d barely got away. He’d managed to drag him and his hand to a ‘friends’, another Doctor who had helped him sort his hand out. After they’d finished Lecter had booked a plane flight to Japan from a small airport near bye where he hoped there would be little police. He also took the precaution of booking a flight to Argentina from a larger airport, first class. He hoped they would think it was him and he could use it as a decor. That night after the ‘incident’ and the repairing of his hand it had rained hard. He had sat and watched it all night, unable to sleep. Worried that he would not get away but most of all hurt, both physically and mentally. He felt rejected, a feeling he wasn’t used to. He hated the way she didn’t seem to understand why he had come to the USA for her. He could still feel his lips burning from the kiss for hours after it had happened, in a way it had helped because it took his attention away from his arm. The rain continued until 6pm the next day, while Hannibal was on his way to the airport. He had got on the plane and shortly after they had got underway he had spotted a rainbow out the porthole. It had given him some hope, he felt that it was a sign that finally something was going to go right. Everything would have been better if he had not gone to see Clarice but he realised he would do it again if the situation should arise. The FBI and the media were correct, she was his weakness, his soft spot. He had never admitted that to himself before. Just like Clarice had never admitted to herself that she was attracted to him. Maybe she was realising it now at the same time as him. That thought left him hopeful and after the rain had fallen he felt oddly at peace again because he knew the time would come, he would have to be patient…he was good at being patient.
