History: Rancors are rare creatures in the Star Wars galaxy. They are found on the planet Dathomir and the Ottethan System, as well as the one in the dungeon at Jabba's Palace at Tatooine. It was found in the Tatooine wastes by Bidlo Kwerve, and after capturing it Bib Fortuna (another lieutenant of Jabba the Hutt) and him gave the beast to Jabba as a gift. Fortuna's reward was a promotion to Chief Lieutenant. Kwerve's reward was to become the rancor's first meal. The creature was taken care of by a Correllian named Malakili, until the fateful day Luke Skywalker arrived. Jabba put him in the rancor's layer by pressing the trapdoor button, but unlike the rest of the victims of "the door", Skywalker killed the rancor instead of the rancor killing him. He did this by lowering the pen gate door on its head by chucking Kwerve's skull into the gate button.

Pretty generic in a lot of ways for a big monstrous creature that attacks the hero in a sci-fi movie. It is a big muscular reptilian thing that excels at grabbing things and shoving them into its mouth. It has a strong jaw and a brutal bite, as well as a hide so thick that it can deflect blaster bolts. Although a powerful beast, it is kind of slow, and one lucky blow can bring it down. Still, as a whole with other monsters, it is fairly average.
