Godzilla vs. Destoroyah

***1/2 Meltdown Godzilla vs. Giant Oxygen Monster!

Toho had enough of the Godzilla series for now, so they decided to end it with a bang. They killed Godzilla off, but still left the series open for more sequels.

A nuclear accident occurs on the island Godzilla and Little Godzilla were on. This overloads Godzilla’s heart so that it is primed to explode and destroy the earth! If that wasn’t enough, an anorobic bacteria mutates into a giant crab monster. Using freezing lasers (how the... oh never mind), and cadmium missiles, Godzilla’s body is settled. The good news is that Godzilla won’t blow up and destroy all life. The bad news as that he is now going to go into a meltdown and destroy the whole earth! G-force gets this bright idea to pit the Destoroyah against Godzilla so Godzilla will get killed so he won’t meltdown. They use Godzilla Jr. (you has grown up a little more now), as bait, and Godzilla Jr. wins against Destoroyah. However, just after Godzilla arrives, Destoroyah mutates into a really big monster, and kills Godzilla Jr. Then, Godzilla battles Destoroyah, and kills it (her, him?). Godzilla goes into a controlled meltdown, and the radiation is sucked up by Godzilla Jr. He then grows to full size. End of Heisei series.

Wow, that was better. This is probably the best of the Heisei Godzilla movies. Sure, Godzilla is still a lumbering hermit crab that does nothing but shoot thermonuclear breath, but at least it is understandable this time (if you didn’t feel well and you had supercharged thermonuclear breath, wouldn’t you do the same?). It doesn’t have much backplot, but that’s good cause they suck at it. The few plot it has is punched with holes and gets a little stupid at times, but not as bad as the rest of the Heisei movies. OK, so there is the annoying part were people seem to be more worried about present problems and sentimentalism than the fact that the world could be doomed. Despite all those problems, the movie is great. The special effects are very good, the best so far. It has plenty of monster fighting scenes, all of which were very well done. The Godzilla parts take up just about the whole movie, which is good. It makes references to the original movie, which is good (I thought that Godzilla was erased from history in... oh shut up!). It even has some spiffy gun fighter vs. strange creatures action scenes (even though they look like they are from a different movie). Basically, the movie was done very well. It is a very good movie (well, at least better than the last 5 or so movies).

This movie rocks! It is really well made. If you are even remotely a fan of Godzilla, you have to check this one out! It has it’s problems, but the well made special effects Godzilla scenes more than make up for them. Go get it, now!

Summery

Good Parts

Good plot that focuses on monsters instead of people.

Terrific special effects.

Really really good fight scenes.

Dramatic, and yet not so.

Integral part.

You just have to see it to understand how good it is.

Bad Parts

Backplot still sucks!

How can a laser freeze?

That double jaw thing looks familiar.

"No! You can’t use the oxygen destroyer, it’s just not right! Even to save the world!"

All right, so I just don’t like the Heisei series. OK?
