Destroy All Monsters

**** Giant Monster Battle Royal!

Throughout the years that the Toho company has been making movies, they have invented a number of monsters. Then somebody got the bright idea to put them all in the same movie. It was suppose to be big, and it was.

The year is 1999(yeah right!), and all the monsters in the world have been captured and put on Monster Island(I don’t know how to spell the real name, and I don’t like "Monster Land".). Then, space aliens from Kilaak(small planet in asteroid belt), decide to let the monsters loose on the world, destroying the old so the can make a new. Through a series of events involving "1999" technology like spaceships, the monsters a freed from alien control. The monsters go to the aliens secret base near Mt. Fugi, and gang up on the space monster Ghidora. The base is destroyed, saving the earth! Yoopeee!

This movie has it all! It’s got strange sci-fi stuff, a bunch of monsters, aliens bent on conquering the earth, a giant monster fight, monster destruction, and even ray gun fights. It has everything for everybody’s taste. If you like to laugh at silly old sci-fi movies, this one is the second most hysterical of all Godzilla movies(right behind Godzilla vs. Monster Zero.). Because it has a ton of monsters in a big fight with both military and other monsters, this is a monster movie fan’s dream. If you like Godzilla, you got him! He plays the biggest role in the movie. Rodan, Mothra, Angurirus, Ghidora, Manda, and Gorosaurus all had a big roll in this movie. Aspiga and Minya didn’t get that big of a part for obvious reasons(they can’t do very much), but they got the biggest part that the could reasonably get. What I can’t figure out, though, is why Baragon and Varan didn’t get much of a part. Baragon was obviously popular, they mentioned him a couble of times. My guess is that the suit they had wasn’t working right, and they were too cheap to get another one or to have him shoot stuff at Ghidora. They even had to have Gorosaurus fill in for Baragon in the Paris scene. Varan may have had his own movie, but he only got a bit part in this one. It’s probably the suit again, because they just had an immovable model fly around a bit. But come on, couldn’t they have at least throw the Varan model at Ghidora in one scene! The Kamakaras didn’t appear in this movie, probably because they couldn’t do much and weren’t really monsters to begin with. Frankenstien, the Gargantuas, and King Kong didn’t pop up, probably because of legal problems.

The special effects in this movie were done very good. They even strayed away from stock footage, only having one small scene, the part of Ghidora appearing. The special effects in the one Tokyo attack scene were done so good, it rivals some movies in the Hessai series(better than G vs. Space G, I think). The plot is pretty darn good also. It gives a Godzilla movie that much needed caring for the rest of the world. It may have gone far fetched at times, but since it is set in the "future", it is excused. As a whole, this movie is very good, one of the best. It’s a true fan favorite, but even good for casual watchers. Go ahead, buy it, and then make the rest of your family watch!
