Silver Coating Chapter 1

Silver lamps and starlight lit the tall proud towers
with their shining walls. The narrow streets were
filled with people, dressed in shimmering reflective
colors as if made from sea water. Tiny white flowers
covered everything, and little bell shaped blue ones
too. Fair voices echoed on the water, they all seemed
to be saying the same thing, “Wake up,”

It took a moment for Faye to rub the silver dust of
her dream from her soot colored eyes. Then there was
reality like a slap on the face. A portly man with
ginger hair shook her awake. “Your stop’s next.” Faye
rolled over and looked out the window; ugly metal
skyscrapers were blocking the view of the rising sun.
She grabbed her beat up backpack, the one she got at
a zoo when she was very small. In it were all her
worldly possessions. Trudging off of the bus, she
gazed about what was to be her new home.

Was that the new charity project? She did look about
seventeen, and she fit the description, on the tall
side with light brown hair, pale skin and dark eyes.
Only one way to find out, “Hey, are you Faye Lios?”
The girl turned his way. “ My name’s Trent, I’m here
to pick you up.” Faye studied him carefully through
slightly narrowed eyes,
“Uh-huh.”
“Do you need me to carry something?” The girl was
pretty, but she was not very grateful. He had roused
himself out of bed at five in the morning, and all
she could say in the way of thanks was, “uh-huh.”
“No, this is all I have.”
“Well…” This was so awkward.
“Aren’t we leaving?” Well apparently she had not
slept well on the bus, she was eyeing him with
malice. He was supposed to be the pissy one, not her.
“Yeah let’s go.”

If this bumbling idiot would talk less and start
driving, Faye might have been more kindly towards
him. She didn’t want her new foster brother or
whatever he was to get the idea that she was polite
though, so by being rude now she was saving herself a
lot of wasted time. She just wanted to get to her new
dwelling, so she could leave.
