Humpback Whales hunt and live in groups called pods. When they are hunting fish they surround them with bubbles, creating a net that scare the fish and force them into a tighter ball. Then they take turns scooping them up into their giant mouths.
This whale also has about 330 pairs of dark gray baleen plates. These are coarse bristles that hang from their jaws. They can be about 25 inches long and 13.5 inches wide.
Although they may hunt and travel in groups they only last for a few months except for the bond between mother and calve, that last a life time.
Humpbacks are very acrobatic. They often breach, which is when they lift their whole body out of the water. They may turn in breaching. It is not clear why they do this. It may be for play, to loosen parasites, or have a social meaning, we do not know.
They also do a thing called spy hopping which is were they poke there head out of the water to take a look around.
They also do a thing called Lobtailing. This is were they stick there tail out of the water, and wave it around.
