Although pandas are in the order Carnivora, they eat bamboo much more than they do meat. 95% of their diet is bamboo! However, they also eat fish, vines, mushrooms, and rice grass.

They also eat many fruits and need to eat at least 20 to 40 pounds of food everyday to survive. Pandas get most of their water from bamboo’s. There are 25 types of bamboo that pandas out in the wild will eat, while the captive ones eat only 9 of the 25.

Although pandas may seem like they don’t have any enemies, they actually do, just like all the other animals out in the world. One of their greatest enemies is a snow leopard because they can snatch a baby panda wandering from home and eat it. Bamboo rats are also enemies of the giant panda bears, simply because they eat the root of the bamboo causing the bamboo to not grow and die, which leaves less food for the pandas. However, the biggest enemy of the giant panda bear is men. They hunt these poor animals and take their skin even though the Chinese government does not allow it. Since many people live in China and the population is increasing, people are taking more land away from these pandas as well as their bamboo forests and making them into cities or places to live.
