When the Chicago Botanical Garden was founded
more than a quarter century ago its goal was to teach the lessons of nature
and thereby illuminate our lives. Constantly changing the Garden is colorful
peaceful exhilarating fragrant historic sometimes exotic frequently wild
and always very much alive. The mission of the Garden is "to stimulate
and develop an appreciation and understanding of gardening botany and conservation
by developing gardens plant collections and education and research programs
of excellence while providing a continuing aesthetic experiece." From school
gardens to community gardens from teaching beginners to professionals education
at the garden is viewed as a life-long process and is the cornerstone of
every program every garden every festival.
