Higher Level Gospel Choir

In the beginning, I used to fool around and play the piano at Burton. I complained that the piano was out of tune and I used to go play at Collette because their piano was better. So I decided to bring my keyboard to school about a month and a half ago. I use to sit in the lobby and play a few tunes that I knew and some I heard right off of the T.V. It started to draw attention to people. I told my friend Corey Dotson that I had brought my keyboard and he told me that he had one too. So he started to play his keyboard and and I found out that he was really good.

I began to tell people how good Corey was at playing the keyboard because people thought I was good, but he was on a whole different level. So one day I saw Ahmad and Shemica Williams and I told them to come listen to Corey play. So they came and we fooled around and had a freestyle and singing session along with Desmon Clinton and LaTisha LaVerne too. It was fun and then we said we were going to do the same thing downstairs in the lobby so people would see us. We drew alot of attention and people started joining in. We kept on doing this night after night and our group got bigger and bigger. Since the first time they told us to stop after quiet hours, we go to the 5th floor of Burton and keep on going. We found out that there were so many people that could sing and freestyle too.

As we start talking about going to the 5th floor, other people wanted to find out exactly what we were doing. So more people started to come and it started to become strictly gospel. During all of this, Victor Rogers got an idea to start a gospel choir aside from the original MSU choir. He was also working on trying to get access to the choir room. He gave us all of the background information on it and he got sign-up sheets at Burton, Ziegler, King, and Watkins dorm around campus. The first sheet was filled within a week. This past weekend we decided to have something like a rehearsal on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We have already worked on a song that Ahmad played for us and we seemed to have got it down. We even have came up with some of our own sounds as well. It all happened so fast, but I'm glad to be a part of it.
