World's Wonder

In almost every Russian fariy tale, there is a character named Ivan. No, he's not that one character that stars in every story like in modern day Chinese kung fu movies (ex. Zhang Ziyi, cthd, hero, etc, oy..). Ivan is always lazy, he doesn't do anything to better his situation. He's passive and above all, stupid. Hopeless should be his middle name. Thank goodness for the character of Baba Yaga.

Okay okay, so she's a witch. So what? The fairy god mother in Cinderella was a witch! In most folk tales, Baba Yaga is portrayed either as a gluttonous killer, or as a motherly donor figure. Half the time she wants to cook poor Ivan in the stove and the other half of the time, she gives him advice and magical objects to develop him into a bright young man. No matter what though, she loves to count spoons and flys around in a mortar while steering with a pestle...weird?

Well, because she either loves to kill Ivan (which I strongly approve of) or make him into a better person, this week's hero is, tah dah!
