Frequently Asked Questions

Home Page

Q: What is BookCrossing and how does it work?
A: Click here for a synopsis of the program and how it works. For more information, be sure to visit the Official BookCrossing website.

Q: What are Official Crossing Zones?
A: Official Crossing Zones are specific places set up especially for releasing and finding BookCrossing books. Usually these are found in businesses. These benefit the businesses by increasing business and goodwill among readers. Book Releasers and Hunters are helped by having a set place where books can easily be shared.
Geocaches also may serve as Official Crossing Zones.

Q: Who can leave books at Official Crossing Zones?
A: Anyone. While the zone is usually maintained by one member to make sure it is well stocked with books and labels, the zones are there for everyone to release and take books. You may even find unlabeled books there, left by people who like the idea of sharing books, but have not joined BookCrossing.

Q: How do I become a member of the St. Louis BookCrossing Chapter?
A: Do at least one of the following: attend a Chapter meeting, join the email list, or take part in Chapter activities. It is as simple as that. We are a loosely organized group at this point. If you would like to be listed as a member on the website, just email me with your BC nickname, reading preferences and favorite authors and we'll add you on.

Q: Are there any membership requirements?
A: You must be a member of BookCrossing.com. Other than that, the love of books and the willingness to share them with others is all that is required. Membership is free. We will accept volunteers to help maintain the Official BookCrossing Zone at our meeting place. And we hope you will join us in our service projects, but how much you participate is up to you.
