S.I.C. Zine News (23 Sep 02)

We have quit updating the site due to the new site in the works at this very moment. And it looks truly AMAZING!!!! Hopefully it'll be up soon. I'll send out a mass e-mail when it's complete with the new URL. We are very excited. ~ the S.I.C. family...

S.I.C. Band News

We're searching for a new name due to the zine. Practices have been going well. Quentin got a new job delivering pizzas for Pizza Hut and hasn't even hooked us up yet, not to mention the fact that our practice have now become fewer and far between. Check the new poll. There's definitely a lot of progression at each session. We're constantly coming up with new riffs and ideas. Now before we start writing more, we're concentrating on tightening up the songs we've already completed and do our best to throw 'em on a demo. We have put the finishing touches on "TRIALS", you can check out the lyrics in the lyrics section. We're also working on our version of "ANGER" by DOWNSET which we have totally redone (partly in a "swing" musical style). Must be heard to be appreciated. Bios should be up soon (just waiting on photos) so keep checking back. Also don't forget to visit Thinline's page. Special thanx to Culito for all the support he's given me. Don't let him fool ya, he's a softy. Thanx Culito!!! Sign the guestbook and give us your comments or just pointless drivel.

The members of Candiria escaped serious injury after their tour van was rear-ended in New York State near Buffalo.
The current Candiria tour with 40 Below Summer has been cancelled.
The van was hit in the rear by a truck, the truck driver has admitted liability.
John LaMacchia and Carley COMA were both flown by helicopter to a trauma center with injuries. John reportedly has a broken collar bone.
The band was en route from their show last night in Albany to a show tonight in Cleveland, Ohio.

It has been confirmed. Thinline is headed into the studio September 10th and 11th to throw down a seven song demo. We are very anxious. How can you get your hands on a copy? As soon as it's finished, I'll post contact and ordering info.

The Dropkick Murphys
Tuesday, September 10th the much-anticipated "Live On St. Patrick's Day From Boston, MA" will finally hit the streets! There are 26 songs on the CD, including DKM classics like "For Boston," "Barroom Hero," "The Gang's All Here" and "The Gauntlet." If you DKM fans aren't salivating by now, you may not have a pulse...
Like they sometimes do, Epitaph Records have made a killer Flash E-Card for this release and it has the new band bio, MP3 and the "send to a friend" function so you can send it to your grandmother and her church group! Check it out at the link here.

From EVR...
Converge European Tour Announced
Converge is preparing to bring their intense and aggressive brand of rock to Europe for the first time in over three years. Avacado Booking set up the tour and if the advance hype is any indication, this tour is going to be the biggest thing to hit Europe since WWII. In other Converge news, the band is set to film a video for a track off their newest offering, "Jane Doe", before they leave for Europe. We will post the clip as soon as its ready to be unleashed on the world. As with all Converge related music and packaging, expect the video to be nothing less than stunning.

As Friends Rust "A Young Trophy Band in the Parlance of Our Times" CDEP - Out Now!
As Friends Rust blend punk/hardcore angst with indie-pop hooks and leads, never neglecting the timeless rock n' roll backbone that bonds it all together. This newest addition to the AFR discography takes them another step forward with their musical evolution. "A Young Trophy..." is a dirty and burly rock and roll record, from start to finish. This is the band's finest hour.

Fairweather "Alaska" CD single / limited 10"
Since the winter of 2000, this Washington, DC area band has seen fourteen different members, two destroyed vans and countless broken guitars. Soon after the release of their Equal Vision Records debut, If They Move... Kill Them the band hit the road nearly continuously on support tours for the record which included stints with Thursday, Recover, Dashboard Confessional, Piebald, Zao, Grade, Strike Anywhere and Further Seems Forever. With four new songs, "Alaska" will satisfy the bands diehard following until the release of their new full length in the spring of '03. The new material is mature, expansive and atmospheric. Expect to be blown away.

Bane had to unexpectedly cancel their American Nightmare / Poison the Well tour due to the death of close friend and band mate (Ink Cartridge Funeral). We all send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Steve Neale. The band was able to make an appearance at this years Skate and Surf Fest in Asbury Park, NJ. Needless to say, the band's performance was as powerful and as cathartic as ever.

Miscellaneous funny shit...

Stuff to do in an elevator
1.) When there's only one other person in the elevator, tap them on the shoulder and then pretend it wasn't you.
2) Push the buttons and pretend they give you a shock. Smile, and go back for more.
3) Ask if you can push the button for other people, but push the wrong ones.
4) Call the Psychic Hotline from your cell phone and ask if they know what floor you're on.
5) Hold the doors open and say you're waiting for your friend. After a while, let the doors close and say, "Hi Greg. How's your day been?"
6) Drop a pen and wait until someone reaches to help pick it up, then scream, "That's mine!"
7) Bring a camera and take pictures of everyone in the elevator.
8) Move your desk in to the elevator and whenever someone gets on, ask if they have an appointment.
9) Lay down a Twister mat and ask people if they'd like to play.
10) Leave a box in the corner, and when someone gets on ask them if they hear something ticking.
11) Pretend you are a flight attendant and review emergency procedures and exits with the passengers.
12) Ask, "Did you feel that?"
13) Stand really close to someone, sniffing them occasionally.
14) When the doors close, announce to the others, "It's okay. Don't panic, they open up again."
15) Swat at flies that don't exist.
16) Tell people that you can see their aura.
17) Call out, "group hug!", then enforce it.
18) Grimace painfully while smacking your forehead and muttering "Shut up, all of you, just shut up!"
19) Crack open your briefcase or purse, and while peering inside, ask, "Got enough air in there?"
20) Stand silently and motionless in the corner, facing the wall, without getting off.
21) Stare at another passenger for a while, then announce in horror, "You're one of THEM" and back away slowly.
22) Wear a puppet on your hand and use it to talk to the other passengers.
23) Listen to the elevator walls with your stethoscope.
24) Make explosion noises when anyone presses a button.
25) Stare, grinning at another passenger for a while, and then announce, "I have new socks on."
26) Draw a little square on the floor with chalk and announce to the other passengers, "This is my personal space".

Strange but true deaths
1. A fierce gust of wind blew 45-year-old Vittorio Luise's car into a river near Naples, Italy, in 1983. He managed to break a window, climb out and swim to shore -- where a tree blew over and killed him.
2. Mike Stewart, 31, of Dallas was filming a movie in 1983 on the dangers of low-level bridges when the truck he was standing on passed under a low-level bridge -- killing him.
3. Walter Hallas, a 26-year-old store clerk in Leeds, England, was so afraid of dentists that in 1979 he asked a fellow worker to try to cure his toothache by punching him in the jaw. The punch caused Hallas to fall down, hitting his head, and he died of a fractured skull.
4. George Schwartz, owner of a factory in Providence, R.I., narrowly escaped death when a 1983 blast flattened his factory except for one wall. After treatment for minor injuries, he returned to the scene to search for files. The remaining wall then collapsed on him, killing him.
5. Depressed since he could not find a job, 42-year-old Romolo Ribolla sat in his kitchen near Pisa, Italy, with a gun in his hand threatening to kill himself in 1981. His wife pleaded for him not to do it, and after about an hour he burst into tears and threw the gun to the floor. It went off and killed his wife.
6. In 1983, Mrs. Carson of Lake Kushaqua, NY, was laid out in her coffin, presumed dead of heart disease. As mourners watched, she suddenly sat up. Her daughter dropped dead of fright.
7. A man hit by a car in New York in 1977 got up uninjured, but lay back down in front of the car when a bystander told him to pretend he was hurt so he could collect insurance money. The car rolled forward and crushed him to death.
