A few days later, Sarah drove over to the Hanson home to apologize. She had the radio on full blast, and was singing along with the lyrics.
With the heater on, Sarah tried to get warm by tapping her green gloves on the steering wheel. She wasn't watching were she was going, and slammed on the brakes, when a small figure flashed across the windshield.
"Oh my God!" Sarah replied as she stopped the car and flund open the door. She ran over to the small body lying on the ground and squatted down to it.
"Avie, Avie of God!" A bigger girl cried, as she sat opposite Sarah. The bigger girl looked up and saw Sarah sitting there.
"What were you doing you freak, you nearly killed my sister!" the girl exclaimed to Sarah.
"Wait a minute! Your Sarah, what are you doing here? You should have been watching where you were going!"
"Im so sorry Jessie. I didn't see her. It's all my fault...I.." Sarah stammered as Mrs. Hanson came running out of the house.
"Oh God Avery! What happened, Sarah what are you doing here? What happened?" Diana asked hysterically. She burst into tears and bent down to her daughter, who lay crooked on the concrete.
"Jessie go call an ambulance!" the woman instructed and Jessica ran off.
Sarah ran her hands through her hair and looked around frantically. She began to shake as Zac and Mr. Hanson came running up to her.
"What are you doing here? Did you hit her? You freak!" Zac yelled to Sarah, pushing her up against her car. "Answer me! What are you doing here?"
"Don't yell! Im sorry, it's my fault I wasn't watching were I was going. I was coming to apologize, I..." Sarah put her hands up to her face and began crying furiously. Zac's large brown eyes blazed with anger, as he stared at Sarah, as if thinking "That's not good enough"
Just then, an ambulance pulled up and the attendents put Avery's body onto a stretcher. Mrs. Hanson was allowed to go with her, and Walker took the rest children into the house.
Sarah was left alone, outside on the street beside her car. She stood there, until a black jetta came running up to the curb (going almost as fast as Sarah, if not faster). Sarah couldn't tell who the driver was until he got out of the car.
It was Taylor and he wore a long sleeved black shirt, a pair of faded jeans, and a grey jacket.
"What are you doing here? What happened!?" He asked quickly as he walked up to the front door. Sarah had to nearly run to catch up with him.
"It was an accident. I was coming here, to apologize about..."
"Don't talk to her Taylor. She's practically a murderer. She's the one who hit Avery!" Zac exclaimed standing at the door. Taylor looked at Sarah, as if he was going to say something, but decided against it.
"What should I do?" Sarah asked in a faint tone, her voice was still sore from crying and her hair was matted.
"I don't know...maybe you should just come to the hospital later...we're busy now," He replied and went on inside. Sarah was left (yet again) out on the front porch. She then turned and got in her car.
Sarah drove around, for what seemed like hours, and made a few calls to let her mother know what had happened. She then decided to go home and take a shower before going up to the hospital.
"What the heck have I done?," Sarah asked herself, as she stood in the shower, letting the hot steam rise up and pound on her back. "I've already made that family angry enough, maybe I just should stay away.
Sarah quickly got out of the shower and got dressed. She blew dry her hair and put it up in a ponytail, before going to the hospital. Her mother had said she would meet her there, but Sarah decided to wait until her mother had come, because she didn't want to walk to the angry family herself.
Soon Linda pulled up and she and Sarah went into the waiting room. They found the Hanson family huddled together on the blue cushion chairs and it appeared that everyone had been crying. Even the boys.
Sarah felt shocked looking at the red splotchy faces of Taylor and Zac, because she had never seen boys crying before.
They saw her come in a but didn't seem to care. Walker came over to Sarah and her mother, and put a hand on Sarah's shoulder.
"Im so..sorry... I didn't mean for this to happen, especially when I was coming to apologize for the other day.." Sarah stammered and looked down at her feet.
"We know..." Was all Walker could say and went on to talk to Sarah's mother. Everyone sat in the waiting room for at least another hour, until the doctor came in.
It turned out that Avery had a concussion and a broken leg. She also had a few minor cuts and bruises but but nothing to severe.
Walker dismissed Sarah and decided not to press charges. Sarah tried to explain the situation to Taylor and Zac, but they just didn't seem to notice her.
"Don't worry honey," Linda said as she walked Sarah out to her car. "They'll come around in a day or to. The Hansons' are a very protective group of people, especially toward their family member. Their also very forgiving and everything will be smoothed over. Im sure in a few week's Avery will be as good as new and you can began to make some good friends."
"Maybe I'll just write a note or call them. Try to explain what happened and tell them about my past," Sarah said as she got into her car and headed home.
