The monthly meeting of Mac's Old Team convened on 14 April at the Home Town Buffet in Chesterfield Commons. 72 "old guys" had their taxes prepared and could still afford lunch.
One point of news was the receipt of the VEBA Trust check for many of the group. Not all had received their check so if you haven't don't worry,"the checks in the mail". If you don't receive your check by the end of April there is an 800 number on our website to call.
After last months generous door prizes provided by MLFP we had to return to Beckel's grab bag selection of ties, hats, cups, etc. and of course golf balls. The "lucky" winners this month were: Bill Engel,Tom Fletcher,Bob Heide,Tom Murray,Vern Mueller,Bill Osterloth, Earl Robb,Carl Scheske, Dave Szukalski, Nelson Weber, and Wade Wilkerson.
Dave Szukalski reminded the group about the annual Spring Golf Tournament scheduled for 13 May at Country Lakes Golf Course in Warrenton. $40 covers green fees and cart, prize money, skins game and lunch. Throw in the fun and fellowship and it is quite a day. You can enter a foursome or singles. Please get your entry into Dave as soon as possible (ASAP for you guys still on Mac lingo).
There are a number of our teammates suffering physical ailments that prevent their attendance at our lunches. If you know, or worked with any of these folks please give them a call, send a card or make a visit. I know they will appreciate hearing from you. If you don't know their phone number give Beckel or Robb a call and we will provide it.
Rus Ramberger is under going treatment for cancer. Rus reports that he is feeling somewhat better and enjoys hearing from his old teammates.
Rick McGee suffered a stroke last fall and is currently in rehab and water therapy. Rick is confined to a wheel chair and really appreciates a phone call.
Ed Stanwich has been moved to the veterans home in St. James, MO. Ed's wife has moved her home to St James to be near him. Bill Doer visits Ed on a regular basis and can give you the latest news on Ed.
Joe and Ruth Trammel moved back to St Louis due to Joe's dementia problems. Joe really enjoys a call or visit.
Lloyd Carpenter suffered a stroke and then a heart attack and is currently in Missouri Baptist Hospital.
John Buncher has been battling cancer for some time now but was able to attend the April lunch. It was great to see John. John is continuing with chemo treatments.
It is very easy to get caught up in our busy day to day activities and lose track of our old teammates. Just a phone call, a note or a visit can really bring a lot of cheer to those suffering some ailment.
Our next lunch will be on Wed. 12 May at the Grappa Grill in St Charles. This is a new restaurant for our group and I think you will like it. See the lunch notice section for all the details.
See you there,
Norman Beckel
