MAC's Old Team
January Lunch Meeting at Old Town Buffet, Chesterfield Commons
January 12, 2005
Posted 01/19/05
The first retiree lunch for 2005 was held on Wednesday,12 January at the Old Town Buffet in Chesterfield.
Seventy six retired teammates enjoyed a good time of fellowship and good food.
Following is some information about some of our Mac's Old Teammates that we know about who are having some health problems. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers:
Hoyt "Doc" Ussery has recently had some very serious problems with both a heart and lung problem that require surgery. He had surgery to repair leaking heart valves on Friday 14 January and was in the ICU at Barnes until Tuesday 18 January when he was transferred to regular hospital room. We understand that tests prior to the heart surgery show that lung surgery is needed to remove a cancerous growth in the left lung. But this must wait until Hoyt has recovered enough from the heart surgery to be able to withstand the lung surgery as well as the treatments after the lung surgery. The most recent report about Hoyt's condition comes from his daughter, Madith Johnson as follows:
18 Jan 2005,
"Dad is finally out of ICU and into a regular room. The doctors report that his vitals are great and they are pleased with their surgery. He hasn't felt like
eating since the surgery and is skinnier than usual, if you can imagine. He should be coming home the end of this week or beginning of next. We don't have a
concrete plan for that, but I'd like for him to stay here with Mom for at least a week, if not longer. Dad may have other ideas, so I'll keep you posted.
His new room number is 7222b and his phone number is 314-747-7245.
Madith"
Hoyt would enjoy receiving a card or note. Send cards to his home address 5 Elmwood Place, Saint Charles, MO 63301.
Rick McGee is at home after recovering from a stroke several months ago. He is confined to a wheelchair, but would enjoy hearing from old friends.
Ed Stanwich continues to be at the Veterans Home in St. James, MO. Bill Doer visits him often and reports that Ed is in about the same condition as was reported in prior months.
Joe Trammel. Ruth indicates that Joe's alzheimer's symptoms have increased in recent months. Joe now is uncomfortable being around large groups of people, so he and Ruth may not be able to come to future meetings. We hope this changes and Joe and Ruth may be able to join us again.
Carl Scheske rejoined us at this meeting after having had knee surgery in recent months, but he is kickin around real great now. Great to have you back, Carl.
Norm Beckel was unable to attend this meeting because he was in Kansas looking for Dorthy and "Toto".

SEARCHING FOR PHOTOS OF CARL L. WAGNER, JR.
Our group was contacted by Robert Wagner who lives in Oklahoma and who is looking for assistance in finding photographs of his father, Carl L. Wagner while working at MAC 1952-1964 (until his death in 1964). Son, Robert was in the St. Louis area and attended our lunch meeting 12 Jan. with the hope of making contact with someone who may have known his father and possibly could help in finding photos of his father while at MAC. So please think about this and dig deep into the old memory and see if we can help this man in his search. There are indications that Carl L. Wagner worked in design on the Green Quail GAM-72 program about 1960-61 because he is listed in the "MAC Speakers Bureau" as a speaker along with Administrater Len Karrol on the the GAM-72. Here are Robert Wagner's words about his father:
"my father started work at MAC in September 1952. He worked in the helicopter division, received a promotion in January 1957 to become Lead Engineer in the Missile Engineering Division. I believe he had involvement with Gemini and Mercury as I understand he went to Houston a number of times in relation to the docking trainer.
His boss was Tommy Mays.
He suffered a heart attack in 1963 but recovered and had a fatal heart attack in October 1964, at age 37.
Again, Thank you for your time and attention to my search.
Sincerely, Rob Wagner
