Thanks to the kind invitation of David Sonderen, our group enjoyed the hospitality of the beautiful Lockhaven Country Club for the October lunch. Although the weather was cloudy and overcast outside the atmosphere inside was grand with a lot of laughs. Then, almost on cue the sun came out as the golfers headed for the first tee. Somebody in the group must have some pull. Neal Covinsky, with his wife Marie, joined us for the first time. Fred LaChance and Donna Tibbs returned after a long absence. We had a nice buffet lunch served by the club staff and then of course there were the door prizes. Although Beckel had his usual bag of golf balls, cups, ties, etc thanks to Earl Robb and Kay Kempland there were actually some great door prizes. Earl made, with his own two hands, stained glass jewelry boxes and a candle holder. Kay made jewelry pouches for the drawings. She also had designed and produced bracelets and ear rings that she gave to each of the ladies present. Earl and Kay you really stole the show. Thank you very much. On the way home we stopped at the Confluence Mo. State Park off Highway 367. This is at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers and is really worth a visit. The view across the confluence is majestic and awesome. The State has really done a super job with this park. It is located off of Highway 367 just before you get to the Alton bridge. there is a FINA gas station at the turnoff. Our sympathy goes out to Bob Duval who lost his wife Kathy in September. Ed Stanwich is still confined to the Veterans Hospital in St James, MO. Rick McKee continues to recover from a stroke at his home. Bob Hoff had to miss the lunch due a sudden illness. There is some good news. Russ Ramberger has been given a clean bill of health from his oncologist. Please remember all our teammates who are struggling with health issues in your prayers and with a call or card. The next lunch will be on 10 November, 11:00AM at the Grappa Grill in St. Charles. Hope to see you all there. Norman Beckel Photos of the Lockhaven Lunch Meeting follow: |
