Chapter 33

Over the following two weeks, while Nick was gone, Kaitlyn busied herself with school and work and going with Kaylee to the doctor and just being there for her. She also was trying her damnedest not to think about Nick anymore than she should. And she was doing fairly well, until he called her to tell her that he was coming back the next day and that he wanted to see her.

“Why do you keep fidgeting?” Kaylee asked as she started flipping through the channels while she was eating a salad.

“I don’t know.”

“You act as if you’ve never seen him before.”

“I know,” Kaitlyn replied sighing frustrated as she stole a piece of broccoli from Kaylee’s salad.

Kaylee pulled her plate away and glared at Kaitlyn, “You’re depriving my baby of food.”

“What?”

Kaylee just shook her head laughing as she turned back to the TV.

“Are you scared?” Kaitlyn asked softly breaking the silence that formed around them.

Kaylee pushed her hair behind her ears and looked over Kaitlyn and then back at the TV thinking. “Sometimes when I really think about it you know I freak out because I’m going to be squeezing a child out of my whole down there you know. But you know it’s also a really nice feeling.” Kaylee shrugged as she smiled.

Kaitlyn smiled and then wrapped her arms around her neck hugging her, “And you know I’m going to spoil him to pieces.”

“Him?”

“He she whatever.”

“We are not calling my baby a he she.”

“If it’s a boy you should name them Nick,” Kaitlyn said with wide eyes and an even wider smile.

“You are so crazy; I don’t want to name my child Nick.”

“Why not? It’s a good name.”

“Whatever,” Kaylee replied laughing as she pushed Kaitlyn slightly.

“I’m serious,” Kaitlyn said nodding.

“No, not naming my child after your boyfriend.”

“Whoa, boyfriend? I don’t think so captain.”

“Have a problem with the term boyfriend?” Kaylee asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Titles are so overrated,” Kaitlyn replied waving her hand lightly in the air.

“Sure, you have a problem with that word.”

“I do not.”

“You do too.”

“Even if I did, so not at that point with Nick.”

“Did you or did you not almost have sex with him?” Kaylee asked cocking her eyebrow as she crossed her arms and smirked a little.

Kaitlyn opened her mouth to reply and then looked around and crossed her arms leaning back in the chair. She pressed her lips together and played with her hair a minute and then opened her mouth again like she was going to say something but nothing.

“Thank you I’ve made my point,” Kaylee replied grinning.

“Shut up,” Kaitlyn said crossing her arms as she pouted a little.

Kaylee grinned some more as she finished eating her salad and then she got up bringing the plate back into the kitchen. Kaitlyn watched her get up and then grabbed the remote and started flipping through the channels before she stopped on MTV.

“Hey I was watching a Lifetime movie,” Kaylee said as she walked back into the living room.

“I don’t care I want to watch Road Rules,” Kaitlyn said as she stuffed the remote down her pants.

Kaylee looked at her and said, “Don’t think I won’t go after that.”

Kaitlyn shook her head at Kaylee and started to laugh.

“Nick would definitely go after that.”

“Shut up, can we go a few minutes without talking about him?”

Kaylee shrugged and said, “I know you’re thinking about him.”

“Nope.”

“He’ll be back tomorrow of course you are.”

Kaitlyn pressed her lips together as she started to play with her hair again keeping her eyes on the TV.

Kaylee just smiled as she took a drink of her water.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

Ok, so I don’t really want Kaylee to name her child Nick. Even though that would be interesting right? I’m sure Nick might get a laugh out of that. Maybe. So he is coming back tomorrow and well I’m not sure what exactly to think. Because while he’s been gone I’ve been doing everything in my power not to think about the boy. Working? Eh, I could be doing better but ya know.

He called me at least every other day, ‘just to say hi’ what the crap is up with that? Huh? I mean he’s a boy, boys aren’t supposed to call ‘just to say hi’ that’s not right. Things like that, they make things difficult and as I’ve stated many times before I like the simple things. When things get difficult you get stressed and well I’m over my stress limit. Did that even make sense? I feel like I’m just rambling.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

“Did you take a long enough shower?” Kaylee asked as she walked out of the kitchen with a pint of ice cream.

“I had to shave,” Kaitlyn replied as she sat down in her towel as she started brushing her hair.

“Oh yeah?” Kaylee asked raising her eyebrows.

“Shut up.”

“Did you shave everything?”

Kaitlyn looked over at Kaylee with wide eyes, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh please, were you shaving because a certain someone is coming home today.”

“5 hours,” Kaitlyn mumbled as she started to pick at her nails.

“What?” Kaylee asked almost choking on her ice cream, “you memorized the time he is coming in? Down to the hour?”

Kaitlyn bit her lip as she looked at Kaylee quickly and then back to the TV as she continued to brush her hair.

Kaylee shook her head and said, “You’re so are gone.”

Kaitlyn gave Kaylee a dirty look as she got up and stomped off to her room while Kaylee started laughing even more.

Kaylee leaned back propping her legs on the coffee table in front of her and then put one of her hands on her stomach as she flipped through the channels. She looked up to see Kaitlyn walk back into the living room fully dressed. “That was quick.”

Kaitlyn just gave her a look as she sat down.

Kaylee smirked as she turned back to the TV, “I think I might get a job.”

Kaitlyn raised an eyebrow and asked, “Daddy decide to cut down your money tree?”

Kaylee scrunched up her face confused as she looked over at Kaitlyn “Huh?”

“Never mind,” Kaitlyn replied shaking her head.

“What are you insinuating?”

“Insinuating?”

“What?”

Kaitlyn bit her bottom lip as she got up from the chair and walked into the kitchen shaking her head.

“That’s the right word!” Kaylee yelled from the couch.

Kaitlyn leaned against the counter in the kitchen with her hand over her mouth as she laughed. She didn’t know what exactly was that funny but she just couldn’t stop laughing. She stopped laughing when the phone rang she stood there still for a minute and then looked over at the clock on the microwave she shook her head and walked into the living room.

“Yeah,” Kaylee said as she held out the phone for Kaitlyn.

“Who is it?” Kaitlyn asked before she took the phone.

Kaylee shrugged and thrust the phone repeatedly at Kaitlyn before she dropped it on the couch.

“Hello?”

“Pumpkin.”

“Nick?”

“That’s what it says on my underwear.”

Kaitlyn closed her eyes and shook her head as she sat down. “What do you want?”

“Just wanted to tell you I’m getting ready to leave.”

“So that’s why you called?”

“Yes, indeedy. I know you want to know the up to the minute news on me.”

Kaitlyn rolled her eyes and replied, “Sure that’s it Nick.”

“I knew it baby, you can’t resist my ass.”

“Cocky much?”

“It’s the vibes I get from you baby.”

Kaitlyn rolled her eyes, “Ok enough of the baby.”

“Why?”

“Because it’s… annoying.”

“Humph.”

“What?” Kaitlyn asked curiously.

“That’s a first.”

Kaitlyn sighed and said, “I have to go.”

“What you don’t have class today.”

Kaitlyn looked around shocked and confused. Had she told him that before? She started to scratch her arm and then said, “No I don’t.”

“Well then you can talk to your man,” Nick replied in a funny voice.

“Have you been drinking?”

Nick started to laugh and said, “Why do you ask that?”

“Never mind.”

“Well baby I have to go. I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Don’t be so sure,” Kaitlyn mumbled to herself.

Nick snorted and said, “Talk to you tomorrow.”

“Sure,” Kaitlyn replied.

“Bye.”

“Bye Nick,” Kaitlyn sighed as she hung up the phone.
