“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.”
“I feel bad.”
Nick lay on his side facing her and put his hand on her cheek. “Don’t.”
Kaitlyn smiled as she leaned down kissing him gently and then moved to lie next to him. Nick put his arm around her as she snuggled up against his chest. Nick sighed as he smelled her perfume and then closed his eyes eventually falling asleep with Kaitlyn in his arms.
“What are you doing?” Kaitlyn mumbled with her eyes closed.
“Sorry I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
“Well when you are moving the bed like that how is anyone supposed to stay asleep?” She asked opening her eyes slightly.
Nick gave her a cute half smile and said, “I was trying to free my arm.”
Kaitlyn shook her head as she moved a little so he could move his arm, “You should have just pushed me or something. Oh man my head hurts, I drank too much.”
“You drank like two beers,” Nick replied laughing.
“My head is telling me I drank a lot more than that,” She said sitting up slowly.
Nick yawned as he looked over at the clock and said, “Damn I guess I should take you home I have to get ready to go.”
Kaitlyn looked over at him and nodded then looked back down at her hands.
“Unless…” Nick started.
Kaitlyn looked back over at him waiting for him to continue, “Unless what?”
“You want to take me.”
Chapter 31
Nick scratched the back of his neck not knowing what to say. He moved off of Kaitlyn and lay next to her.
Nick woke up and looked around him and then down at Kaitlyn, who was lying on his arm that was asleep. He wanted to move it but he didn’t want to wake her up. He tried everything to free his arm including almost falling off the bed. He was rocking back and forth slowly inching his arm out from under her.
Oh man. My life has now turned into a cheesy romance novel or something. But I was being honest when I said that. I like him; I don’t want it to be just meaningless sex. I want it to mean something. I want it to be something that I won’t regret. Because I’ve regretted a lot of my other sexual experiences and just blamed it on alcohol and I think it should mean something. I don’t see anything wrong with that. Sex in general should mean something right? Eh… well I never really considered that before but I guess now that I actually like Nick then I want it to be special I guess. See the cheese just oozing from this?
So he’s leaving. He’s got to do what he’s go to do. I can’t do much about that. But… he wants me to take him? Hm… do I have to think about this?
And what happened last night. No comment.
“Nah that’s cool. I don’t like airports much too many people.”
Nick frowned slightly disappointed and then said, “Understandable.”
Kaitlyn smiled at him as she got up off the bed and walked into the bathroom.
Nick watched her get up and then sighed as he got up scratching his head as he looked around his room.
“Bye,” Kaitlyn said as she started to get out of the car.
“I’ll call you.”
Kaitlyn smiled at him and then leaned over kissing his cheek, “I’ll be waiting,” She said winking at him.
Nick smiled at her as she got out and closed the door behind her. She grinned at him and then blew him a kiss before she made her way up to her apartment.
Nick leaned his head back and sighed as he watched her walk up the stairs to her apartment. He shook his head and then backed out of the parking space.
“Well look who finally decided to come home.”
Kaitlyn smiled at Kaylee as she walked passed her heading into her room.
“Where are you going?”
“I’m changing,” Kaitlyn replied as she took off her dress.
“I need details like right now. You spent the night with him.”
Kaitlyn pulled a tank top over her head and looked at Kaylee grinning.
Kaylee gasped a little and said, “You didn’t.”
“No.”
“Oh, well damn. You’re going to kill the boy.”
Kaitlyn pulled on her pajama pants and then turned around putting her hands on her hips. “I did something way out of character.”
Kaylee crossed her arms and cocked an eyebrow as she waited for Kaitlyn to continue.
“We almost did.”
“And?”
“I told him to stop.”
“Why?”
“Because I like him.”
“Duh.”
“And, I want it to mean something.”
Kaylee looked at Kaitlyn shocked, “Way out of character.”
“I know. But it’s true I didn’t want it to be just because he was leaving and I didn’t want it to be just sex. I want it to be…”
“Magical?” Kaylee asked dramatically.
“Shut up.”
“That’s cool.”
“I mean can you imagine, after all this sexual tension and shit and just waiting how amazing it will be?”
Kaylee shrugged.
“I’ve never done it with someone that I truly cared about. It’s always been wham bam thank you ma’am shit.”
“Yeah.”
Kaitlyn shrugged and said, “I don’t know it just didn’t feel right,” she shook her head as she walked out of her room.
Kaylee followed Kaitlyn out of the room and into the living room and she sat down next to her on the couch, “Nothing wrong with that.”
“I know.”
“Ok,” Kaylee replied as she turned to look at the TV.
They sat there in silence as Kaitlyn flipped through the channels.
“I told Kyle.”
Kaitlyn turned to look at Kaylee, “And?”
“He hung up on me.”
“What?”
“Said he didn’t believe me that I was crazy and just hung up,” Kaylee replied shrugging.
“Bastard.”
“It’s cool, it’s not like I really wanted him around you know.”
“So you’re going to keep it?”
Kaylee looked up and then leaned her head back and sighed, “I don’t know.”
Kaitlyn nodded and waited she could tell Kaylee had other things to say.
“On one hand I’d being going against everything I’ve ever stood for if I gave it up or had an abortion you know. And that’s not cool. And on the other hand I think maybe that’s what I need in my life to mature me, make me grow up you know. But that’s not all I mean there is a child growing in my belly. I can’t believe it really and well it’s just I don’t know. I’m so afraid to tell my parents. You know how they are.”
“They won’t hate you.”
“Oh but they might. Worst case scenario they would cut off all my money supplies. Then I’d have to get a job.”
“Oh no,” Kaitlyn replied rolling her eyes.
“Shut up.”
“Jobs are good things.”
“Yeah, anyway I really don’t know what to do.”
“Well you’ll have to decide soon.”
“I know,” Kaylee replied sighing.
“If this does anything for you, I think you’d be a great mom,” Kaitlyn said sincerely.
Kaylee looked over at Kaitlyn smiling and then she leaned over hugging her.
And I do honestly think that Kaylee could be a great mom. It’s just something I can’t really explain, it’s just one of those things that you just know. I guess. I don’t know really but whatever she wants to do I’ll be here for her. She’s been there so many times for me so it’s only natural and right for me to be there for her.
Is it sick that I already miss Nick a little? I think so. Damn boy has invaded my every thought like there’s no tomorrow. Like now when I should be focused on my friend I’m sitting here wondering how his flight is, what he’s doing. Ugh. I blame it on him. All of it, whatever it is it’s his fault.
So my mom was supposed to call when she got home and she hasn’t. Which is odd for her. I guess I’ll have to call her, maybe she forgot.
Later that night Kaitlyn laid in her bed reading one of her books for one of her classes. She looked over at the clock it was almost two in the morning. She looked back down at her book rubbing her eyes when her cell phone rang.
“Hello?” She asked yawning.
“Pumpkin.”
Kaitlyn rolled her eyes smiling and said, “Jackass.”
“My new nickname?”
Kaitlyn shrugged and said, “Sure.”
“So Whatcha doing?”
“Some last minute homework.”
“You want me to let you go?”
“No, I need a break.”
“Alright.”
“So how was your flight?”
“It was ok, just another airplane ride I slept through.”
“Oh,”
They sat there in silence a minute. Kaitlyn could hear Nick moving things around and then him sighing when she guessed he sat down on the bed.
“So, Kaitlyn?”
“So, Nick?”
“What are you wearing?” Nick asked in a low voice.
Kaitlyn looked around the room pressing her lips together trying her hardest not to bust out laughing.
“Hello?”
“Nick what are you doing?”
“What do you want me to be doing?”
“Not this.”
“Huh?”
“What are you trying to pull buddy?”
“Nothing.”
“Bullshit.”
“Well, you know I’m all alone here in this big hotel room. And I’m feeling sick so I don’t want to go out and you know.”
“Nope don’t know,” Kaitlyn replied laughing.
Nick sighed on the other end of the phone while Kaitlyn just giggled. “You’re not playing right.”
“I’m not playing at all.”
“Oh come on why not?”
“Uh… because?”
“Why?”
“I don’t do that.”
“What?”
“That.”
“That? What are you talking about?”
“What you were talking about.”
“Huh?”
“Nick.”
“Kaitlyn.”
“You’re confusing me.”
“And you are me.”
“Well at least we agree on that.”
“So, what are you wearing?” Nick asked again in a low tone.
“Nick.”
“Really? I didn’t know you could wear me.”
Kaitlyn rolled her eyes sighing as she laid back on her bed.
“Come on give me something here to work with.”
“No, oh god you are so not going to do that while I’m on the phone.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t want to hear you.”
“I’m not loud.”
“I don’t care.”
“Obviously you do.”
“I don’t want to hear the panting or whatever.”
Nick started laughing and said, “Panting?”
“You know when you start going faster and shit.”
“Wow,” Nick replied still laughing.
“What?”
“I didn’t think you knew anything about this.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing,”
“Jackass.”
“Tease.”
“Tease? How am I a tease?”
“Just talking to you it’s teasing me.”
“Oh stop it.”
“What are you wearing?” Nick asked whining now.
“Goodbye Nick,” Kaitlyn replied as she hung up on him. Kaitlyn shook her head laughing and set her phone on the night table next to her bed. Wondering if Nick would call her back or not. She turned the lamp next to her bed off and then pushed her books off of the bed and lay down.
