Chapter 29

Nick smiled as he leaned his head back watching Kaitlyn make her way to her apartment. He liked this fun side to Kaitlyn. She could be so much fun if she just let loose every once in a while. Nick sighed as he started his truck up and backed out of the parking spot still smiling to himself.

“You’re back,” Kaylee said as she looked at her watch.

“Yep,” Kaitlyn replied cheerfully.

“What happened?”

“Nothing to exciting,” Kaitlyn said grinning as she looked around the living room, “Where’s my mom?”

“She went to lie down in your bed, said she wasn’t feeling well.”

Kaitlyn nodded as she made her way to her room. She stood in the doorway and looked at her mom for a minute and then she quickly and quietly grabbed her pajamas and kicked her shoes off. She closed the door softly behind her as she went into the bathroom to change. She walked out in her pajamas and then flopped down next to Kaylee on the couch putting her feet in her lap.

Kaylee looked down at Kaitlyn’s feet and then back at Kaitlyn, “What’s up?”

“Care to share your bed?”

“Care to share your night?”

Kaitlyn grinned as she looked down at her hands, “It was amazing, like I could do something with him and it not be amazing.”

“You are glowing.”

Kaitlyn looked up smiling, “I had so much fun you have no idea. I really really like him, like sixth grade love I swear. He makes me giggle and gives me butterflies and everything.”

Kaylee smiled as she shook her head and then looked back at the TV.

“So when did my mom lie down?”

“I wonder if she is taking her meds.”

“Why wouldn’t she?”

Kaitlyn shrugged and said, “Sometimes she feels ok and doesn’t take them because she doesn’t think she needs to. She doesn’t understand she has to take them all the time or she’ll end up in the hospital again.”

Kaylee just nodded not really knowing what to say.

“So you going to share your bed with me?” Kaitlyn asked with a big cheesy smile.

Kaylee sighed and said, “I guess, even though you toss and turn and drive me nuts.”

Kaitlyn smiled and then moved kissing Kaylee’s cheek, “Love you girl.”

“Yeah I know me too,” Kaylee replied as she patted Kaitlyn on the head.

“I kissed him, I initiated it. Not him. Me.”

Kaylee looked at Kaitlyn rather surprised.

“No clue why either. Then he kissed me back. And when he dropped me off I asked him to do it again.”

Kaylee smiled as she leaned her head back looking at the TV.

“He leaves Sunday,” Kaitlyn said sighing.

“Gonna miss him?”

“Do you really have to ask that?”

Kaylee looked back over at Kaitlyn laughing.

“Are you going to come with me tomorrow when I take my mom to the airport?”

“Nah, I’ll let you guys be together.”

“Ok,” Kaitlyn replied shrugging as she leaned back but her feet back in Kaylee’s lap.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

So my mother is leaving tomorrow afternoon. I knew she wasn’t staying long but I don’t know I just, I’m going to miss her. I’ve always been a bit of a momma’s girl. I love my momma. But sometimes if we spend too much time together we start to push each other’s buttons.

I have no clue what came over me tonight. I never ever in my life have been so… what? Ballsy? That’s a good way of putting it. I don’t think I’ve ever made a move on a guy before. Oh well… not really that big of a deal. It’s over and done with and well… it was wonderful.

That is all. I think I’m going to go to bed and hopefully have some nice dreams. If you know what I mean.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

“Are you ready?” Kaitlyn asked her mom as she stood up putting on her jacket.

“Yeah, is it still raining?”

“Yeah,” Kaitlyn replied looking out the window.

“Where is Kaylee?”

“She went out for a little bit.”

“I didn’t get to say bye.”

“She says bye and that she had fun and she loves you.”

“Awe, I love that girl too. I’m so glad you found such a great friend.”

“Yeah she’s pretty good to me.”

Kaitlyn’s mom smiled at Kaitlyn as they made their way to the front door.

Kaylee sighed as she sat in her car in the parking lot outside of their apartment complex. She watched the rain fall and then she leaned her forehead against the steering wheel. She sighed heavily as she took her seatbelt off and hurriedly got out of her car and up the stairs to her front door.

She walked into the apartment and immediately went into the bathroom closing the door behind her.

“I’m so glad you got to come mom,” Kaitlyn said as she hugged her mom tightly.

“Me too dear I’m also glad I got to meet Nick. He is truly a wonderful guy I’m so glad you found someone that is good to you.”

Kaitlyn smiled as she pulled away from her mom, “Me too mom.”

“Well I’ll call you when I get home.”

“Ok,” Kaitlyn replied kissing her mom’s cheek.

“Love you Katy.”

“I love you too mom.”

“Bye baby,” Her mom said as she hugged her again and the picked up her carry on bag and turned around.

Kaitlyn watched her mom walk away and then she turned around smiling as she headed outside.

Kaitlyn pulled into her normal parking spot and looked next to her to see Kaylee’s car. She got out of her car and made her way up to their apartment. She opened the door and looked around curiously. It was dark and quiet. Kaitlyn walked into the kitchen that was empty too. Then into Kaylee’s room and her room no sign of Kaylee anywhere. Finally, Kaitlyn stopped in front of the bathroom door knocking on it lightly.

“Yeah?” Kaylee answered softly from inside the bathroom.

“You ok in there honey?”

“You can come in.”

Kaitlyn opened the door slowly to see Kaylee sitting on the floor up against the sink her knees to her chest and her head resting on her knees. “What’s wrong sweetie?” Kaitlyn asked squatted down beside Kaylee.

Kaylee looked up at Kaitlyn her face tear stained.

“What happened?”

Kaylee didn’t say anything she just held up the tiny plastic tube for Kaitlyn to see.

Kaitlyn looked at what she was holding up and she read what it said, “Oh baby,” Kaitlyn said as she wrapped her arms around Kaylee who started to cry again.

“I took three just to be sure in case they were wrong you know? But they all said the same,” Kaylee said softly as she cried onto Kaitlyn’s shoulder.

“It’ll be ok.”

“I don’t think it will be.”

“Honey, it will be.”

“What am I going to do?” Kaylee asked as she looked up at Kaitlyn.

“I don’t know but you know I’ll be here no matter what.”

“I know,” Kaylee replied as she laid her head back on Kaitlyn’s shoulder.

Kaitlyn wanted to ask her questions but she thought against it. This was the time to just be quiet.

“Kaitlyn I don’t want a baby,” Kaylee said quietly as she closed her eyes.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

Wow. I don’t know what to say. My best friend is… pregnant. How does this happen? Well ok I know how it happens but I just… I’m just confused. I guess. Or sad for her. I wouldn’t know what to do in her situation and I wish I could help her but I don’t know what to say to her. It’s just weird. Strange and just like something that shouldn’t happen to someone. I don’t know these things are always so strange. Yeah. I’m shocked too. But it doesn’t really matter what I think really. I’m going to have to be there for Kaylee no matter what.

Kaylee is going to have a baby. Oh my god.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

“Feeling better?” Kaitlyn asked Kaylee as she walked into the living room in a pair of baggy shorts and a baggy t-shirt.

Kaylee shrugged as she sat down next to Kaitlyn on the couch. She laid her head in Kaitlyn’s lap and Kaitlyn started to run her fingers through her hair. They sat there like that in silence watching TV.

“Kaylee?”

“Mm?”

“You wanna talk?”

“No.”

“Ok, you know I’m here right?”

“Uh huh,” Kaylee replied softly.
