Kaylee is still acting really weird I had to practically beg her to come with us and that’s just strange in itself. Kaylee loves to shop more than anything in the world. So something is definitely up with her. It’s like she’s been thinking a lot lately and well that isn’t really Kaylee she isn’t up for the deep thinking you know so that’s why I know something is going on. I would ask her but my mother is around and will make a big deal out of something so tiny. So I’ll wait until my mother leaves which is in the morning. She didn’t stay that long and well I’m slightly grateful for that.
Chapter 27
So I guess things went over better than I thought. My mother can’t stop talking about Nick and how wonderful he is. Blah blah blah. And how she wishes she could spend more time with him but he had stuff to do today. Whether or not that’s true I don’t care. My mother, Kaylee, and I are going to have a girl’s day. We’re going to go shopping and get pampered. Just all that good stuff.
“Kaitlyn?”
Kaitlyn looked away from the group of teenage boys that were looking at her and looked at her mom, “Yeah?”
“I was just wondering something about Nick.”
“I’m not sure if I wanna know.”
“Me neither,” Kaylee said as she took a drink of her soda.
“It’s not anything nasty you dirty girls.”
Kaitlyn shook her head and glanced back up at the group of boys and smiled.
“I was just wondering how you felt about him. You didn’t talk much last night.”
“What do you mean?”
“Love? Do you love him?” Kaylee asked grinning.
Kaitlyn shot Kaylee a dirty look and then looked back at her mom.
“Not necessarily,” Kaitlyn’s mother said shaking her head.
“I like him, isn’t that all that matters?” Kaitlyn replied.
Kaitlyn’s mom looked at her for a minute and then looked at Kaylee who in return just shrugged.
“Kaitlyn who are you looking at?” Kaylee asked as she moved a little to see who Kaitlyn kept looking at.
“Nothing,” Kaitlyn replied turning back towards them.
“Uh huh sure, you do realize they are probably barely 16.”
“Shut up.”
“Robbing the cradle.”
“Shut up.”
“What are you two talking about?” Kaitlyn’s mother asked as she looked between the girls confused.
“Nothing, your daughter is just checking out some minors.”
“What? How come? Why would you want to do that?”
Kaitlyn rolled her eyes as she wiped her hands on her jeans and then stood up, “I’m ready to get back to shopping.”
“Yeah, I want to go buy a few new CDs,” Kaylee said as she stood up stretching a little and then she walked over to the trash can throwing her trash away and then joined Kaitlyn as they made their way to the escalators.
“Not going to wait for your mom?” Kaylee asked Kaitlyn as they stepped onto the escalator.
Kaitlyn looked behind them to see her mom catching up with them, “She’s coming.”
“Thanks for waiting girls,” Kaitlyn’s mom said from behind them as they walked into the music store.
“Sorry mom thought you were right behind me,” Kaitlyn said as she scanned the store and then walked over to Kaylee.
“You’re so mean,” Kaylee whispered to Kaitlyn as they scanned the latest CDs.
“Shut up.”
“Oh honey look, I’m going to buy this,” Kaitlyn’s mom said as she walked over to Kaitlyn and Kaylee holding Nick’s CD.
“Why?”
“Well I should support my soon to be son-in-law.”
“What?”
“Oh, I know I’m jumping the gun but you two are so adorable together I’m just sure that it’ll work out.”
Kaitlyn looked at her mom like she was crazy and then back at Kaylee who was laughing.
“He sure looks adorable on the cover.”
“And that’s the one that comes with a DVD,” Kaylee pointed out.
“Really?”
“Yeah, Kaitlyn used to watch it every week.”
“Shut up,” Kaitlyn said through clenched teeth as she glared at Kaylee.
“Is it good?” Kaitlyn’s mom asked smiling.
“Uh…” Kaitlyn replied as she rolled her eyes and then walked away from them.
“I think she’s embarrassed,” Kaylee said quietly.
“I think so too. I think I’ve been doing a lot of that lately. And the funny part is I’m enjoying it.”
Kaylee started laughing and said, “Me too.”
“She needs to lighten up a bit. I’m not really going to buy this. I just think he is so adorable.”
Kaylee looked at the CD and said, “Eh… he’s not bad. His ass is huge. But I wouldn’t kick him out of bed.”
Kaitlyn’s mom started to laugh and said, “Me neither.”
Kaylee shook her head laughing and then continued looking at the CDs in front of her.
“So Kaylee what about you? Any new men in your life?”
Kaylee looked over at Kaitlyn and then back at her mom, “Uh, kind of. I’ve been somewhat seeing this guy named Kyle.”
“Somewhat seeing him? How is that?”
“I don’t know it’s not like we’re dating or together you know but I don’t know.”
“I understand,” Marie replied laughing.
Kaylee shook her head laughing, “Ok.”
“It’s just a physical thing?”
Kaylee looked at Marie with her eyes wide, “No comment.”
“Mm hmm… I know all about that.”
Kaylee shook her head as she looked up to see Kaitlyn walking back over to them. “Hey sexy thang.”
Kaitlyn rolled her eyes and looked at the CDs in Kaylee’s hands. “What are you guys talking about?”
“You and sex,” Kaitlyn’s mom replied smiling wide at Kaitlyn.
“Oh, so glad I came back when I did,” Kaitlyn said as she turned back around walking away.
Ok, my mother and Kaylee are talking about sex? And me? Fantastic. Something isn’t right with my mom she has been acting weird. She never used to talk the way she has been. My mother doesn’t talk about sex. Ugh… or she shouldn’t at least. It’s not my mom. I think she’s just trying to be cool and hip or whatever for some odd reason. I want to know why.
So, all day I’ve been with my mother and Kaylee and I can’t stop thinking about Nick. Bastard. He just won’t go away.
“Today was fun huh?” Kaitlyn’s mom asked as they walked into her apartment.
“Yep,” Kaitlyn replied softly as she flopped down onto the couch.
“What’s wrong honey?”
Kaitlyn looked over at her mom and said, “Nothing.”
“Liar,”
“I’m serious.”
“You haven’t talked to Nick all day and you want to talk to him don’t you?”
Kaitlyn looked at her mom for a minute and the she looked away.
“If you want to do something with him without me I can stay here with Kaylee.”
“What about me?” Kaylee asked as she walked into the living room sitting down onto the couch next to Kaitlyn.
“I’m going to stay here with you while Kaitlyn goes out with Nick.”
“Oh really?” Kaylee asked cocking her eyebrow as she looked at Kaitlyn.
“Mom its fine I see him all the time I hardly ever see you.”
“I know dear but when you’re in love I know you want to see that person.”
Kaitlyn sighed as she leaned her head back when the phone rang.
“Hello?” Kaylee asked as she picked up the phone.
“Kaitlyn there?”
“Nick?” Kaylee asked with a grin.
“That’s me.”
“I want to talk to him,” Kaitlyn’s mom said as she grabbed the phone away from Kaylee before Kaitlyn grabbed it.
“Nick?”
“Marie?”
“How are you dear?”
“Good.”
“Doing anything tonight?”
“Nope that’s why I was calling.”
“Well, then come pick Kaitlyn up at seven.”
“Ok. What about you?”
“I’ll be fine me and Kaylee will catch up.”
“Ok.”
“Kaitlyn has been missing you all day.”
“Oh really?”
“Yeah, you can tell.”
“Interesting,” Nick replied smiling.
“Here she is,” Kaitlyn’s mom said as she handed the phone over to Kaitlyn.
“Hello?”
“Hi pumpkin, miss me today?”
Kaitlyn groaned in reply.
“So I guess I’ll see you later?”
“Yeah,” Kaitlyn replied sighing.
“Don’t sound so happy pumpkin.”
“Bye,” Kaitlyn said as she hung up the phone.
Now my mother has turned into a damn matchmaker. Ugh. Wonder if I can just pretend to meet him somewhere and then go somewhere by myself. I don’t want to spend the night with him. That sounded dirty but it wasn’t meant to be dirty. I don’t want to do anything with him, period. Ok now I’m just lying to myself but its fun to pretend. Huh?
