Chapter 20

Kaitlyn looked at Nick with wide eyes as she nearly choked on her pretzel she could feel her cheeks getting warmer, hell her whole body was rising in temperature.

“You ok?”

Kaitlyn mentally yelled at herself she didn’t think he would notice.

“Your face is turning red.”

‘I KNOW!’ Kaitlyn screamed at him in her head. “Sorry almost choked,” Kaitlyn said taking a drink of her water.

“So?”

“Isn’t that something a little too romantic for friends?” Kaitlyn asked cocking an eyebrow. She smiled to herself, nice save.

“Nah, it’ll be fine come on. I love the ocean and it’s so beautiful when the sun it’s the water just right.”

Déjà vu much? Kaitlyn looked around trying to think of something to say some excuse to get her out of this but her brain had died on her.

“So?”

Kaitlyn looked at him and the way he was looking at her. Her mind was flashing a giant red sign that read danger but she just smiled and then nodded before taking a rather large bite of her pretzel.

“Good,” Nick said smiling back at her.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

Oh. My. God.

Is this happening? I feel like I’m experiencing some sort of out of body thing. Or déjà vu that could be it. No, that is it seriously. Except instead of a sunrise it’s a freaking sunset. And then I had to go be thirteen again and turn probably more shades of red than… I don’t even know. Ugh. Excuse me while I go kick myself in the ass… repeatedly.

Why am I getting so worked up over this?

Yeah, I don’t know!

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

“You ready?” Nick asked as he stood up after she finished the last of her pretzel.

Kaitlyn groaned inwardly she purposefully tried to eat slowly so maybe, just maybe they would miss the damn sunset but nope. She looked up at him as he just smiled at her she wanted to yell at him to stop looking at her like but she just stood up and threw her trash away and followed him as they made their way out of the mall.

“I love the beach,” Nick said as they got into his truck and he started it up.

“Really? As bad as this sounds I haven’t been there since I moved here. Hell I think I’ve been to the beach maybe once in my life.”

Nick looked at Kaitlyn shocked, “What have you done with your life?”

Kaitlyn laughed lightly and said, “I’ve always had my head in the books or well somewhere else but that’s another story.”

Nick looked over at her cocking his eyebrow and a smirk forming. “Oh really?”

“Shut up and drive.”

“Oh baby, I love when you talk dirty to me.”

Kaitlyn rolled her eyes as she looked out the window hiding her smile from Nick.

“I can’t believe you live in Florida and have only been to the beach once.”

“I was a dorky kid we didn’t have money to go on vacation. I’ve never taken a family vacation ever in my life.”

“I should take you to my house,” Nick said as he looked over at Kaitlyn wiggling his eyebrows.

“Uh… why?”

“Better view of the ocean?”

“Uh huh sure, you just want me in your bed.”

“Hey, I’m not denying that. It’s lonely all by yourself.”

“Trying to guilt me into sleeping with you?”

“Nope, is it working though?” Nick asked laughing.

Kaitlyn shook her head as she crossed her arms and looked back out the window.

“And… we are here.”

“Uh… this is the beach?”

“Well we do have to walk just a little,” Nick replied shaking his head.

“Dude, I’m going to get sand in places it shouldn’t be,” Kaitlyn whined as she got out of his truck and waited for him as she rubbed her hands up and down on her arms, when did it get so chilly?

“Ah ha, I knew I had a towel or something in here,” Nick said as she closed the back of the trunk.

“What’s that for?” Kaitlyn asked motioning to the blanket.

“Uh… to sit on?”

“Ha, smart ass.”

“Ask dumb questions get smart ass answers.”

“Ha ha,” Kaitlyn replied sarcastically as she reluctantly followed him.

“Here we go,” Nick said as he laid the blanket down and then sat down patting the space next to him.

Kaitlyn bit her bottom lip fighting back the urge to ask him if he was trying to seduce her because then this all might turn out like her dream and she wasn’t all that sure if she really wanted that to happen.

“I love it out here.”

“I think we’ve covered that Nick. You love the ocean,” Kaitlyn retorted as she sat down next to him leaving a nice big space between them.

“Man, I was just saying it’s just so peaceful.”

“Yeah,” Kaitlyn replied sighing.

“We still have a few minutes before the sun sets.”

Kaitlyn nodded and looked down at her watch before she looked over at him, the wind slightly whipping his hair around into his face. She sighed unaware that she was still full on staring at him.

Nick looked at her questioningly as he pushed his hair behind his ears once again. “What?” He asked half whining.

“Nothing.”

“Seriously, what? Something in my teeth? My nose? What?”

“Nope nothing is wrong with you… at all,” She said as she looked at him a minute longer then averted her gaze to the ocean.

Nick looked at her smiling before he looked back at the ocean as well.

Kaitlyn cleared her throat and asked, “Where do you see yourself in ten years?”

“Huh?”

“Just a question,” She said shrugging, “in ten years where do you think you’ll be?”

“God, I don’t know never really thought that hard about it. I’d love to be still in the entertainment industry in any way shape or form. I don’t know. Maybe if I ever found the right girl maybe have a family. I don’t know. What about you?”

“Kaylee always tells me that I’m going to end up the old lady on some block in the city with a million cats and I’m going to the old lady that all the kids in the neighborhood are scared of.”

“Seriously?” Nick asked as he chuckled lightly.

“Yeah,” Kaitlyn replied sadly.

“What?”

Kaitlyn looked over at him squinting a little, “I don’t want to be that.”

“What do you want?”

“Truthfully? I want to be successful I want to be one of the top lawyers in the world.”

“That’s all?”

“No, as much as I hate to admit it eventually I want a man in my life. I don’t know about kids or marriage but just someone to hold you know. That’s all I ask,” She replied softly as she pulled her knees up to her chest resting her chin on her knees as she stared out at the ocean.

Nick looked at her as they sat in silence. He wanted to say something to her but everything that was going through his head just what he really wanted to say. He started to say something in almost a whisper, “I’ll be that some-.”

“Look the sun is setting,” Kaitlyn said as she nodded in the direction of the sun.

They both sat in silence as they watched the sunset.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

Ok, what has come over me?

I’m having dirty dreams. I’m opening up. I’m confessing things that I can’t even believe myself. It’s the sunset, the romantic feeling. Yep, we’ll blame that.

I just want someone to hold? What am I? Ugh.

Ok truthfully it isn’t the sunset. It is Nick. He has seriously warped me in some way shape or form I know it. That has to be it. Because well I said so damn it. And what’s with my question? Ugh… I feel the need to scream at the top of my lungs while pulling my hair out. Yeah… maybe I should do that.

Ok is it me or was Nick going to say something along the lines of ‘I’ll be that somebody’ because if he was I think I may just… die? I don’t know. And what the hell was up with me staring like a fool? God, I’m caving and hard.

…:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::…

Kaitlyn started to yawn as they sat there not saying anything after the sun had finally set.

Nick looked over at Kaitlyn, “Tired?”

“Yeah, I don’t know why though.”

“Busy day?”

“Uh not really. I didn’t go to class today.”

“How come?” Nick asked curiously.

Kaitlyn looked at Nick blankly, what was she supposed to say? Oh because I had this really erotic sex dream about you and well it has warped my mind and I just decided not to go. “Just didn’t feel like it,” She replied shrugging and then shivering slightly.

“Cold?”

“A little chilly out here.”

“Yeah, you ready to go?”

Kaitlyn sighed as she looked out at the view one more time then she looked at Nick smiling, “Yeah.”

“Alright,” Nick replied as he stood up and then offered his hand for Kaitlyn to get up.

Kaitlyn looked at his hand.

“What? I promise I washed them,” Nick said as he examined his hand before reaching it back out to her.

Kaitlyn shook her head and then took a hold of his hand as she got up. She let go and put some more space between them after he helped her because they were a little too close for comfort, well for Kaitlyn at least.

Nick looked at her and then picked the blanket up dusting the sand off of it and then folding it up into a ball.

Kaitlyn started to make her way to Nick’s truck with her arms crossed. She got to his truck before him and leaned against the passenger side. She turned her head and watched him walk over to her side of the car. He stood in front of her for a minute and then dropped the blanket on the ground. Kaitlyn looked at him questioningly as he put his hands on the window of his car on either side of her face. She looked at him like he was crazy as he started to lean in. He moved his hands to her face and cupped it gently as he leaned in kissing her intensely.
