Civil Air Patrol, a civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force was formed on December 1, 1941 and served with distinction throughout World War II in defense of the continental US, flying anti-submarine patrols, border surveillance, pulling tow targets and performing air courier services. The core of the organization in those days was a group of aviators who were ineligible to serve in the armed forces, but who wished to contribute to the war effort. By the end of the war these volunteers had flown more than 500,000 mission hours, sinking two German u-boats and saving hundreds of crash victims. They had also initiated a cadet program preparing young men with an interest in flying to move directly into the Army Air Corps flight training programs. This volunteer service has survived and prospered through the last 60 years and stands ready today in a new time of crisis to serve this nation. The Branson Tri-Lakes Composite Squadron, located in Branson Missouri, is actively seeking interested men and women willing to serve their nation in many capacities associated with the three primary missions of the organization - emergency services, aerospace education, and cadet training. The squadron is also extending a cordial invitation to young men and women between the ages of 12 and 18 years old with an interest in aviation to join the cadet program.
